They HAVE to take what Dishonored brought to the table into account in their own development or look like fools. Like it or not what the competitors do with similar concepts (in the case of Dishonored, VERY similar) has to be taken into account or you'll be left behind.

As for Garret hacking people to death, much like Dishonored, I assume it will be one possibility for gameplay, whereas you can also stealth if you want to. I played a pretty stealthy play through of Dishonored but it was still fun to have the option of murdering everyone.

One thing I found appealing about Thief 1 and 2 (haven't really played Deadly Shadows, it had too much slow down on my computer) is that it had a fairly simple array of tools at your disposal. So that could be one difference from Dishonored where there were a lot of weapons I only used once in a great while.
