A few weeks ago, Nintendo announced that they were acquiring 3 Sega exclusive titles. All Sonic games, one of which is Sonic Lost World, a 3D plat former similar to Sonic Generations and Sonic Colors (it technically counts).
Nearly a week later they revealed 6 unknown characters that would play a role in Lost World. And now just a week after, we have a trailer.
I bet I know what you're thinking. "This is obviously a Mario Galaxy rip off ergh!" Ah but that may only be partially true. You see while this game does borrow elements from Mario Galaxy such as the gravity gimmick and the addition of Mario's traditional run button (buttons in this case as Sonic will have 2). But this game also closely resembles another game that was lost to the ages, that never got released nor finished, Sonic Xtreme for the Sega Saturn.
I'm not saying this theory is true, but it is quite possible that Lost World is in ways, a nod to Sonic Xtreme. Especially since technically Sonic Xtreme was briefly revived back in 2010/2011 as a fan game project by it's original lead programmer and creator but sadly was canned again shortly after due to development issues. It might not have gained much attention, but a lot of info about the game did start pouring in around that time.
Anyway more info about Lost World.

The game sees players once again take on the role of Sonic the Hedgehog as he travels to a world known as Lost Hex and faces against a band of villains known as the Deadly Six. Similar to the cancelled Sonic X-treme, gameplay takes place on spherical worlds that shift in perspective, allowing for both 2D and 3D gameplay, with level designs largely influenced by earlier Genesis-era games. A new control system has been created for this game which fits in with the levels. Moving the directional controls will move Sonic at a moderate pace, whilst holding down a trigger button will engage his running speed, with an additional trigger rolling Sonic into a speedier ball form. A parkour system is introduced, allowing Sonic to maneuver across obstacles and run up walls whilst the run trigger is held. The game will also feature Color Powers, which are similar to the Wisp powers of Sonic Colors, and a Support Mode where a player using the Wii U GamePad can assist another controlling Sonic with the Wii Remote and Nunchuk. Along way, Sonic can rescue small animals by destroying badniks, Red Rings which unlock additional content and Gold Cannons that unlock new paths.
