That way you get the best of both worlds of finally freeing yourself of the mutually assured death spiral that is talking to any of us on a remotely regular basis AND you don't have to make the people you supposedly like feel like shit. It's win-win!

That's the great thing about the internet is you can just pretty much dip whenever you want and nobody's really going to notice. I think the past two days are the most I've posted in a year. Did any of you notice? Of fucking course you didn't.

In all likelihood, we've all known each other long enough to where anyone that we want to talk to is easily reachable via means outside of the forums, so an announcement that you're just not going to be posting on or reading on a social medium that, let's be real here, as been outmoded for several years now probably isn't going to make much of an impact on your ability to socialize with the friends you've already made here.

Whether you intend it or not, a big announcement thread on your departure pretty much boils down to fishing for well-wishes at best and a giant fuck you to everybody at worst. Why not just do the most painless thing and exit quietly and save yourself and everyone else the trouble? It's what the vast majority of people we don't see around here anymore have done, and I, quite frankly, salute them for it.

So just go. I wish you the best.

The next time I see an "I'm leaving" thread, I'm going to post the entire Declaration of Independence in it.
