This entire thread is based on my own personal experiences playing games like World of Tanks which have a voice component. Also, a discussion with a friend as well focuses on this.
First off, I am a male. I am proud of that and everything. However...I've noticed a few times on the mic this happen and it happened again today. *facepalm* Match on Wide Park in my ARL V39...and someone(bodies) have their kinects on...I say something about it and this is the response... "Oh wow! There is a girl playing this?" ![]() So I tell a friend of mine this and mention we could milk it for everything it's worth (she is an actual female of our species) and she proceeds to explain to me how it is sexist to do that. It got me thinking on something so bear with me... I've noticed that most communities, their members do not seem to care about gender. They just care if you can play the game and are not a complete asshole about it. The most bigoted tirades I see/hear come from people who are NOT part of the community for the game or are in a self-imposed exile from the forums for said douchebaggery. This mindset seems the strongest in EVE Online with World of Tanks after it and maybe Star Trek Online. Maybe the best place to fight bigotry is to cultivate these kinds of attitudes (where no one cares about who you are or anything else beyond your ability to play) with the help of various gaming communities?
