Almost every game has them. Those small players, those few npcs, who nobody thinks about, but without whom the games would be nearly impossible or unplayable.

I dedicate this thread to remembering some of the greatest bit players and most important NPCs in video game history!

To start it off with Norstein Bekkler. You may remember him better is the floating head and hands in Chrono Trigger. If not for this single, almost completely overlooked character, it is possible that Crono might have not had a happy ending.
