I must confess i'm somewhat fascinated byt the idea of this game. It's a game i would play if it was F2P with Micro transaction for items, sadly it's subscription based and i really can't get myself to invest in something like that.
But it's crazy though, the notion, the idea... this is one of the oldest and most popular MMOrpg's out there in ages, and actually it's at the very top of the category for Sci-Fi and Space MMO's... The whole concept that gets me (and at the same time repels me) is the idea of consequence, of real loss. I mean, i see some of these videos on youtube, and when you get to the comments you get some insight of what it's really happening... Then you get a picture of what it's like to put together 100 players, all of which invested months (maybe even years) in game time to hone and train skills, to buy Gear and Ships. Then Formed alliances, joined clans, pledged loyalty and became guns for hire... And then you hear about this.... preparation. Weeks beforehand, actual RP going on (in some level) people making Offline diplomacy that affects Online gaming, alliances, betrayal, Spies, the whole nine yards. And finally comes battle, and you put in perspective the stakes at hand... everyone in it can loose everything they have. Ship blown up? It's gone! Your scape pod has a chance... that got blown up too? Do you have a clone back home? No? Well, gone are those extra points you had around...! Months of work, tons of in game cash, gone. That's... well that's some kind of pressure for a online game. You have to wonder the tension of being in the middle of something like this. You are there with other people that are counting on you to be victorious, and your ship is taking HEAVY damage, will blow up soon... do you flee? Save yourself and your hard work? leave all behind betraying friends and comrades? The urge must be there. This is not some simple Xp Penalty or maybe you loose a rare item... y'know? On the other hand, imagine being Victorious in a scenario such as this... it must feel like you actually accomplished something, you know? With all this going on, Eve online is a game that fascinates me, like a Exotic new car that i can't tell if it drives well because i never looked under the hood. I heard you could buy Gameplay time with In-game currency instead of paying with cash, which is a curious idea, but on the other hand, Eve sounds real close to a real job, and i must imagine that for all it's flaws the allure of it all must be really strong for those who "get it". Maybe someday i'll give it a try with a trial account. You know, this would be a Fun "LP" to do sometime, just jump in to Eve Online, completely Blind and learn the path the hard way |
