Shopping Cart Skitching

So, I was doing groceries today, and I was in a bit of a hurry. So I went through the store basically doing this, but without the skateboard attachment (just put my foot on the bottom crossbar and pushed with the other foot; you have no idea how long it took to find that video, either).

I'm sure everybody's done this at least once... if not, you should definitely do it next time you're out. Ignore the dirty looks you get from the old people you race by.

But I did have a question.

I live in Canada, and in North America we generally have fixed wheels at the back of our grocery carts; that is, only the front ones pivot to turn. I've heard that in Europe, however, all four wheels pivot. This seems like a far, far better idea when it comes to regular grocery shopping, but I imagine it would make the aforementioned skitch technique difficult. Does it become dangerous due to crazy rotation, or is it merely a matter of aiming properly with your foot?
