I just got this a couple days ago, and am really liking it. I've been doing a lot of grinding so that I have the latest equipment and have my core team well leveled and all the highest equipment for the time, and as such, haven't been having too much trouble. Then again, I'm still in the first chapter, so there's still plenty of time for the game to kick my ass.
Any thoughts on the game? Any tips? What jobs should I focus on? Which ones should I ignore?

It all really depends on your playstyle really. My core team usually (When I don't have a damnable guest) includes:
Knight (Subskill: Monk) Summoner (Subskill: White Magic) Archer (Subskill Knight or time magic) Samurai (Subskill Ninja's Throw or Geomancy) Mediator (Subskill Oracle), or Black Chocobo for someone to ride I love how they re-localized the game this time through, and the animated FMVs are simply beautiful. I've gotten alot of love from this game. Also, at the beginning, everyone should have accumulate (I forget what they call it in this one, since they changed tons of skill names) from the squire skillset. It's great for using random battles to train. Just sit there and accumulate like hell, and kill off all but one enemy.

Was there mention of the breathtaking cutscenes that I absolutely love? Ah good victus mentioned it so I don't have to waste half a post gushing over the cutscenes.
For a party class, I always make sure one character has Items/Throw Items as a set of skills. Maybe Have your thief do it. Also be sure to get a Time Mage, Black Mage combo. The Time Mage can halt the enemy while the Black Mage can deliver powerful spells, should the Faith be as high as possible. |

If this is like FFT though, the main storyline battles have constant levels (except for the monsters). So in other words, if you ignore random battles, you might be able to slaughter everything at this point to the end of the game (I've done it). Keep in mind that random battle levels are based on Ramza's (is that still his name?) level. So if you want a challenge, make Ramza level 30 while everyone else is level 5. The best class is a tricky one if you're not going by all the classes in the game. The specialty classes are crazy broken (in fact, Ramza's Squire is one of the best). Also, it doesn't usually come down to best class (and by that I mean I forgot which one had the best stats), but the best skill. However, Monk is a crazy strong class and if you buff your brave you can easily do 300 damage per punch (duel wield) by level 30 and waste everything. So that one might be the best, I forgot. Top priority skills are... Secondary: -Math (get with a calculator, don't have to use MP for spells and can work it out to hit all enemies and a bunch of other fun stuff, completely broken on a high faith character. The calculator itself though has ass stats, you'd want this as a secondary on a wizard) Reaction: -Hamedo [Monk] (counter attacks before they happen) -Blade Grasp [Samurai] (at max brave this translated to, in the PS version, ignoring all physical damage) Support: -Some type of attack up or duel wield, it depends on the class you're using. Movement: -Move 3 (only available to females? Or is it males? Regardless, you get it from the respective performance class) -Teleport [Time Mage] (able to move anywhere within your move distance, stretches infinitely vertically and can go through walls. You can even take a chance and move farther than your move distance, although it can fail) EDIT: It's worth mentioning that FFT had a notoriously broken system that puts FF8 to shame.

I had a battle in the bag just now, then thieves charmed two of my characters. Fuck.

That reminds me of when in the PSX version when I used my monk to one-shot Queklain *Double-punch**cry of pain*

I always got by with a team of three consisting of two female Ninja's with the Calculator Math skill secondary and Ramza as a Knight with Guts secondary and the ninja's dual wield ability or catch sword from the samurai.
The ninjas are female because they can equip the "contage" perfume that garners them free Re-raise and Regen permanently so they never ever ever stay dead unless there is a complete party wipe. With Ramza able to double break people with two swords he's pretty solid and since he can buff himself to 100 Brave easily, when he has catch sword he can stop any and all physical attacks (even bullets and arrows which is odd and I think it's a bug from the original PS1 version that never got fixed). Anyway, I like to toss in Mustadio (though in the PSP version you'll find that Balthier is like Mustadio on crack, gone super sayain, and raping Captain Jack Sparrow all at once) and maybe a nice Munk for random punch fun. As for the game itself, the cut-scenes and the voice acting really took this game to the next level of awesome. I mean, Tactics was always my favorite Final Fantasy, but the new cut-scenes just made it even better for me. |

Actually, it would prolly be better off without Ramza and just use Orlandu with Hamedo and Etsufuckit II.

Anyway, the story telling in this version is much better. Which is great because the War of the Lions story itself was wonderful and having it be told in a much better medium just made the whole experince nicer for me. |

other than that, if this has the same problem the PSX version has, then, the Story battles dont follow your level, just the random encounters do. Also... if you see a enemy group of just chocobos over lvl 40.... you're dead. |
