Default Left 4 Dead Modding

I'll be making some levels, and given my innate scripting/coding abilities, I will likely be trying to mod/add things to the game.

I create this thread sort of as an open suggestion thread. Left 4 Dead is already, in my opinion, a near-flawless co-op zombie game.

What do you think could be added? Within reason given your knowledge of the engine, what would you like to see?

My example, and one of my initial goals, is going to be making a second type of pill (codename Rage Pills) that don't heal you, but instead drastically increase your strength and speed.

I was thinking maybe you could start them out with various Melee weapons and then they find guns at later check points. But all your guns can be used as melee weapons.
Maybe have a sniper rifle that can see in the dark (night vision) and is silenced so it doesn't attract attention.

Silencers would be awesome. Nightvision goggles would be awesome too.

Also I think a baseball bat is first on the list of melee weapons.

Humm... how much -can- you do with weapons with mods in this?

Because, for fun effect, i think that the Crossbow from HL2 would be awesome to have. Pinning zombies to walls and such. Or if you're really crazy (and good at it) just Put the Portal Gun in there and maybe some maps for it.

Another interesting thought... a mod fusing L4D with Mirror's edge. Think Le Parkour with zombies rushing behind you. Just need longer jumps and some cleverly made maps (Split second decisions!) and no guns.

I vote you mod a sniper rifle that can take out survivors with one headshot, and create a gameplay mode where you play one crazed survivor, trying to take down the other survivors before they make it to safety.

I'm still creating my first level to learn the tools I'm working with, so I don't know the limits of modding "entities" or their properties yet. I suspect I will, soon. However, augmenting things like damage, accuracy, etc should not be too hard. Making entire new weapons will probably require other programs and scary topics. However,

Highly likely, given that the crossbow is a weapon made to function in the Source engine.

Highly unlikely, since there's probably too much coding involved and Portal was built uniquely to handle that kind of physics.

This...might be doable actually. It might be possible to change the responsiveness of survivor jumping (which is really the only thing you can do in L4D, unlike Mirror's Edge with all the fancy tricks). If that was the case, yeah, platforming is possible, if a bit clunky on the Source engine.

So far I have two rooms with a working ladder, a spawn point with a pump action shotgun, and a platform that zombies can jump onto! And I got the survivor bots to follow me.

Hey I know all that sounds really simple, but it isn't! And this is day one!

Also, are there any types of levels peeps wouldn't mind seeing? SMALL levels? You know, since that's what I'm doing right now.

How about a maze?

EDIT: Another idea. Would it be possible to set up a capture the flag type level? Basically, it would end the round until you returned to the safehouse with, say, a gun, and you start the level unarmed. You have to somehow sneak into a 'base' guarded by zombies, get the gun, and get the hell out.
