So, there's a bird in my yard mom found and she's trying to take care of it. It's quite small, can't fly and just keeps being noisy. We gave it some seeds ( of a plant whose English name eludes me ) but we're not sure what to feed it. I tried snapping a picture of it but I only have my webcam and it was too far. I was trying to identify it but my only conclusion is that it looks like a small blackbird. Except I'm across the world from where they live.

Do you guys have some sort of wildlife preservation society or birdwatching group? They might know what species it is.
I don't know about laws where you live, but here in the USA, it's actually illegal to hold certain breeds of wild birds in captivity, even just for nursing them back to health. It's probably a good idea to find some group who could legally care for it, or give you some pointers on caring for it, if that's legal.

We took care of cardinals before, they ended up pretty well, but Black Birds are an enigma to me.
Best off going with Mauve's decision and bring it to some wild-life preservation society or birdwatching group, because if it is a blackbird, then it is doubtful that its there on its own. Although if you're going to attempt to care for it, try not to let the shock kill it (keep it away from loud vehicles and similiar devices), I lost a blue jay like that once. |

Focus on this. I'm probably very wrong about it, as there are a LOT of bird species, specially with black feathers as a chick. I may try to take a picture tomorrow, if it's still alive.

It's not particularly good for them, but you can always try to feed it with bread.
It won't be very nutritious, but it'll tide it over until you figure out what kind of birdfeed (or insects!) to use. |
