You need to buy this game.
Apparently, it comes out tomorrow, and it is quite possibly the best game on the Wii. Think Star Fox 64, only much, much better. The controls are fantastic, the music is great, and it's hard as hell. It blows even the first Sin and Punishment out of the water, and the Wii controls are a big part of that. I loved this game in Japanese, and I'll love it in English. Seriously, if you have a Wii and don't get this game, there's really little point to you having a Wii.

I have heard great things about it, but I'm worried. When the sequel got announced, I downloaded the N64 version on the Virtual Console. Maybe it's because I was using Gamecube controls, but I had real problems controlling it.

I like the idea of aiming and moving with different controls, so I'll probably get it at some point.
EDIT: I just realized your link was your review and not the Nintendo page for the game. It's the first time a game review has altered my state of buying priority (game-buying is not yes-or-no for me). Not really surprising as I've fully read less than 5 reviews in my life (two being this and your FFXIII review). So now I'm stuck between buying this game or getting Borderlands for the "game is old" price. Last edited by Aldurin; 06-27-2010 at 08:33 PM. |

I just checked Amazon so that I could complain about how long it's gonna take to get to me. It already shipped! It'll probably be here by Wednesday! I'm pretty excited.
Concerning Ytoabn's concerns, yeah, the first game had some pretty unique controls, but they work once you get used to them, except for maybe the roll. I'm pretty glad they mapped the roll to it's own button in the sequel. Actually, I'm pretty psyched about the whole new control scheme.

I found the best controls the classic controller with control scheme C. Still, it takes a lot of getting used to, but you have to keep in mind. The game was designed to work with the N64 controller. Look at an N64 controller. Look at classic and gamecube controllers... Yeah. This is designed to use the wiimote, and is much, much better for it. The plot is a load of nonsense, from what I've heard, but nobody plays Sin and Punishment for plot, just like nobody plays Star Fox 64 for plot.

Came today. Played through level 1. Stopped because of plumbers fixing my sink. Going to play more now, bye.
Edit: So, I got stuck on a boss on level 6, I think, so I took another break. Then I went and tried playing as Kachi in level select. I'm currently ranked ninth in the US for Kachi, Normal, Level 1. Woo, top ten! Seriously, though, that pretty boy and his robots need to die in a fire. I'm not sure I'm good enough to make that happen.

I'm double posting because, darn it, more people need to read that first line.
I got around to beating the game today. While the final fight was pretty neat, I didn't like it or the ending as much as the first game. It only took me two tries, for one thing. Also, something about what I'm fighting for in Star Successor wasn't quite as cool as [first game end spoilers] defending Earth from Chia Earth. Then the ending cinematic wasn't as cool; Saki and Airan contemplating the road ahead and deciding, "Eh, let's just keep killing Ruffians and see what happens," is just more appealing to me than "Kachi's just Katchi." Oh well, at least everything leading up to that was bigger and better than the first game. Also, I just checked my stage one Katchi score. I'm not even in the top twenty anymore. Sad face, but it was bound to happen. Now everyone else buy this game.

This game is pretty hard to get over in the UK for some reason. Doesn't help that it's expensive, and these kinds of games just shouldn't be sold at full price imo.

Honestly I've been starting to think about that more and more with Nintendo's lineup. New Super Mario Bros Wii never felt like they put that much effort into it, and the same with Super Mario Galaxy 2. Now we have Donkey Kong Country Returns and Kirby Epic Yarn coming to the Wii (I was surprised that they weren't simply DS or 3DS titles) and those will be full price. I really feel if you're going to do a 2D side scroller, you either need to put a ton of effort into it to justify the price, or discount it.
