Video Games And New Vegas has some DLC

You know aside from the preorder junk. Not exactly new but I finally got some time to work through it and as I figured I rather enjoyed it.

Those of us who found most of the Mojave rather easy might find some particular amusement in this one, which shifts you from your place of power by stripping you of your weapons and armor and forcing you to rely on what little you can scrounge together. It also restricts your ability to rest by surrounding everything in a nice red cloud that slowly saps your life in Hardcore or only does it in the thick areas in normal. You also get to run into an almost ungodly quantity of bear traps so you may find yourself limping badly on your way up. As a guns user with fairly unimpressive endurance I was in a world of shit, because you honestly don't get a hold of any real guns until you actually get to the second part of the DLC and you have some rather heavy hitters to deal with in the first part. You also get a nifty explosive collar that will explode if you disobey the main plot giver, any of the DLC companions die, or you are in proximity of a radio for too long(and this is probably going to get you killed more than anything else in this game). The key is that most people are going to feel it go from the typically forgiving style of the rest of NV to a unforgiving survivalist hellhole where your resources are limited and you are likely to die. Quite fun.

Part two has a bit more of a mental aspect as most of the enemies you face there are immortal and you'll have to figure out how to get past them and progress the line. If you try to fight them they will kill you with nary a thought so you have to keep a healthy mind on it. On the plus side/even worse even with max stealth you still have the same chance of getting past one as if you had zero, so no advantages there. And the radios get even worse in there.

As for those companions who if you let die will cause you to die as well they are all fairly interesting. A ghoulified lounge singer, a nightkin with a split personality, and a woman who cannot talk. Between their engaging backstories, personal reasons for being there, and at least two hinting at your future they are all worth looking into. And they all allow a slight respite of the many issues that are going to try to kill you while you are in the Sierra Madre area. Especially if you use ranged weapons.

The overall theme is that of letting go, and it cuts pretty deep. By the time I finished I had that deep visceral feeling as I listened to everyone say the phrase, "It's letting go." And the fond farewell you are granted before you exit for good was worth every second of suffering I had trying to survive in there.

As is typical for me I did not have any of the major bugs anyone ever talks about. So my videogames love me quite a bit. But I hear about some pretty bad troubles so it is worth it to be wary. I would suggest it with all my heart though. It is really a very good addition to an already fun game.

Any thoughts on the DLC?
