I'm going to go see Yes on Friday, and Yes is basically what got me into music, so yeah. I'm excited.
Anyone else seen anyone good in concert lately? |

I saw The Scorpions in concert a few months ago. They were really great up until they left and some fat hippie started playing.

Seen Mindless Self Indulgence in concert twice, and they're really fun live. Even got to go on stage at the second concert. My Chemical Romance put on a pretty good concert when I saw them, though from what I hear they're very hit or miss for good concerts. Linkin Park put on an amazing concert. Their music isn't my favoritest, but the concert itself was really good.

You know who puts on a good concert? Weird Al. I went to the first stop on the Poodle Hat tour, and thus was witness to the first live performance of "Albuquerque" outside of the eponymous town. I couldn't talk the whole next day, and some weird lady was giving Mike the stink-eye the whole time, but who cares?! I got to see Weird Al gyrate his hips in a girl's face to "Would you be my Lover."
Oh, yeah, and he did "Yoda," but that should go without saying.

Heh, I saw him several years ago long before his Poodle Hat tour, unfortunately. I think it was his Episode 1 tour? I can't remember.
Best thing was watching him fall off the stage at Konokti.

Mm, I can think of quite a few who I think are worth a watch; from the top of my head:
Decent Bands Live
Bands who I was disappointed in:
Edit: Also Panteón Rococó are hilarious and Rodrigo y Gabriela impressed me very much. Last edited by Corel; 12-04-2008 at 03:34 PM. |

I saw Horse the Band in the basement of a Universal Unitarian church along with So Many Dynamos and Heavy Heavy Low Low. It was essentially a giant mass of metal heads turning the half of this tiny church basement closest to the stage into a massive mosh pit while all the hardcore dancers got to spin around like whatever effeminate euphemism you'd like to insert here in the second half.
I saw So Many Dynamos again in the Bowery about two weeks later at this small indie rock label show. I'm still not sure how they got slated to play with groups like Low Low but they make good music. Also, indie kid dancing is very silly.

I can't really imagine what a N12LLY or HHLL concert would be like.
It sounds terrifying. |

Actually just saw Broken Social Scene (Well, the BSS guys and surprisingly fun Land of Talk girl) at Janus a little bit ago. The first time I had seen them there they had to pack up early because of the curfew, and everyone was totally expecting a similar thing the second time but apparently it's extended by an hour on the weekends so it was probably the most awesome thing ever to watch my favorite band kind of throw together an hour of music they weren't prepared for. It might just be me, but seeing what happens when the setlist breaks down is like sonic-Spanish Fly. I already wrote about how Flaming Lips throw the objectively best spectacle. Explosions in the Sky live is great, like freebasing their CDs. Iron and Wine + full band orchestration = kind of middling.

I suppose I should mention The Subways too; another frequent flyer with Flogging Molly where I just happen to see them when I go see other bands. Ah yes, was a shame I missed out on seeing them. Even more so as Eluvium were also playing along side. |
