LOOOOOOOOOONG time lurker first time poster.
No. This ending is going in the exact same direction Nuklear Age's ending went. Villain who thinks everything is predestined, girl dead, super powered titans from opposite ends of the spectrum fighting and other supers being caught in the crossfire. No. I was completely depressed by the ending of NA. I never read it again. I won't read the sequel or Atomic Robo because of his propensity to end things as soul crushingly as possible for fun. Comic books are called "escapism" for a reason. If I want depressing drudgery that can only end sadly I'd be paying attention to my life instead of trying to escape it through the medium of the printed word. Look, I understand this is his comic and he can do what he pleases but Jesus Christ it's not funny. I can't even read "Warbot" because of it's sad, aching depression "Haha! Warbot has a cold lonely life and only wishes someone, somewhere, paid attention to the deep hurting he feels in the very core of his soul! How ZANY!!" I've been reading this thing from comic 45. I've bought the book, t-shirts, been doing everything I can to support this site and my reward is watching the slow, inevitable death of the characters I've been following for, literally, years? It's like if MST had ended with Mike hanging himself, or if, in the last episode of Arrested Development Kitty came back and shot them all before two full minutes of silence as she contemplates putting the gun to her head then finally does it. If I wanted to be depressed I'd read a newspaper or watch my bank account slowly drain as my car starts to die. This stuff? This stuff isn't cool. |
