Do you live in California? Are you under the age of 19? Do you like to write? If you answered yes to all of those questions then this is for you.
It's a contest for young playwrights who are interested in having their work evaluated and/or professionally produced in San Diego. As a sixteen year old who loves writing and has been in his fair share of plays, I felt that this was right up my alley so I submitted my entry just a couple moments ago. It seems like a great opportunity for me to try and get my foot in the door of the writing world. I love writing, my dream has always been to write comics professionally, so I think its cool to be given a chance to have my writing critiqued professionally. The deadline for entries is June 1st and the results should come in in September. If any of you guys fit the criterion to enter this contest, please do. |

do they provide feedback? Cause... i can image a couple hundred of plays being sent their. I really doubt they will read all. I just wonder what their process may be...

It says that if you would like an evaluation of your script you can request one and they will review it for you.

I just got a reply from the people running the contest. Apparently, they got a google alert about this thread and I was asked to relay this information to people considering entering a script into their contest:
"We receive around 300 scripts each year, and yes, every script is read! If the contest entrant requests an evaluation, they will receive an individualized script critique. The script evaluations go out by the end of September, which is also when the Contest winners are notified. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact Playwrights Project at write@playwrightsproject.org. More information on the Contest can be found on our website www.playwrightsproject.org." |

I think their age bracket is set too low. Because I'm above it now and I have some decent short plays I workshopped in a college play writing class. As it is you'd have to be a high school student and unless you took an actual play writing class like I did what you'd be sending in would have to be workshopped more likely than not to win, not just get a single critique.
That and just the fact I can't enter it! ![]() Does anyone know of any other things like this opened to everyone? I remember when I was taking the class the professor had like twenty things we could have entered our plays in, but I forget them all, and Google searching has given me nada...
