mIrAcLeS A police officer that you can respect

Link

Quote:
Lyons approaches a man who is openly carrying an unloaded handgun in a holster, which is permitted by California law. Lyons checks to make sure the weapon is unloaded, then returns it to the owner, acknowledging his right to carry it. He is polite and professional (cordial, in fact) throughout the three-minute encounter, even when the man says he has no ID and declines to give his last name. Nor does Lyons lose his cool when he notices that the man, who identifies himself only as Jeremy, is recording the encounter. "Well, it should look good on YouTube," Lyons says. "I'm the first one to be an advocate for that." It's not clear whether Lyons means the right to bear arms or the right to record police encounters, but either way he makes no attempt to interfere. He adds, "Make sure you get a good picture of me so you know exactly what I look like, because you've got a statement to make here. I'm all for that." At the end he shakes the guy's hand, saying, "Jeremy, thanks for your cooperation, and remember: My name is Officer Lyons with the Oceanside Police Department. My badge number is 1093. God bless America."
So, with Lyons example, I'm convinced that police officers don't have to bully the entire populace into submission just to follow the law. A little more of this is needed in the world, not the crazy need to obey someone that's just walking down the street peacefully.

*Thumbs up*

I dunno, dude with a gun, no ID, and refuses to give his name sounds like something I'd appreciate a cop looking into. The dude recording it also sounds like he was just trying to cause some agitation.

I'm not going to say anything about the right to bear arms, I'm just going to add California to the list of US states to stay the Hell away from. Unless you need a permit to carry ammunition which I doubt.

Most cops do respect the citizens they protect, yes.

I mean, you hear all about the terrible stories, but there are plenty of unsung heroes, who do their job so well that you never hear about them.

The guy wasn't breaking any laws, but he was probably trying to agitate the cop. But I'm all for the guy taking the high road and keeping his cool. Thanks for sharing.

I've honestly never met a police officer in person that wasn't courteous, helpful, and concerned with whatever we spoke about. They're just people.

All the crazy ass stories I hear mostly come from down south. Must be something funny in the air down there. Corn syrup, maybe.

So wait you can just own a handgun in California and the cops won't even ask to see your firearm license?

I would enjoy the delicious irony if it you were required to have a license to buy the ammo, thus allowing you the "right to bear arms" all you want as you gesticulate wildly and impotently with your empty gun.

I'd buy two to gesticulate wildly and impotently with, guns akimbo, as I am murdered by miscreants.

EDIT: So apparently if a gun is empty you can wear it openly in California, but if loaded with DEATH, you better keep that shit concealed. Because we don't want to know when you are carrying a gun with actual bullets in it, apparently.

However you do need a permit of sorts for a handgun so I'm confused as to why that wasn't asked about at all here.

I saw this on youtube - The cop seemed like he was actually kind of harassing the guy and was just behaving as well as he was for the camera. Also the guy filming was being sort of weird too and while he may have been exercising his rights he was also clearly putting the officer in an awkward position.

Actually Fifth, and this is from someone who at least somewhat understands the problem of police brutality, I'm kind of curious about your response - I mean, there's a secondary discussion of gun-control this kind of goes into but it doesn't seem all that unreasonable for someone carrying a deadly weapon to provide their name or ID?
