Attempting To Learn ASL

So, yeah. The two native languages (officially) are English, and French. I know a fair bit of English, I can maybe have a conversation in French, and aside from learning Hebrew or Latin, I wanna learn Amer... sorry, Canadian Sign Language. Wouldn't want to cofuse anyone with regional dialects or anything.

I know a few hand gestures already, but they only get me slapped and thrown out of bars. It'd be nice to knpw a few new ones. The trouble is I dun really know where to go to learn CSL. Would it be a program at my local college, would I have to find a course online or would I have to find somewhere that offeres it?

Do you have TAFE's or adult learning annexes there? Cause they should be able to do it. You also may want to look into any local charities or disability support groups, I'm pretty sure some down here run SL courses.

I've considered learning ASL for use at loud concerts or for when deaf folks come to the theater. You just got me to look into it. My plan was to use Anki, because Anki can teach you anything, but I can't find any pre-made decks, so that sucks. However, I found Signing Savvy, which just looks super useful. I could probably build my own Anki deck from that.

Didn't find anything for your LSQ, though. Probably because no one likes the Quebecois.

I taught myself ASL pretty well for about a year by making vocabulary lists from ASL books and practicing each list until I had it memorized. I feel like it's somewhat easier to learn if you're a visual thinker but that's purely anecdotal.
