Whelp, they've gone overboard this time.
The games are: Really Big Sky (whatever the fuck that is) Runespell: Overture Cthulu Saves the World (I've been back and forth on wanting this). Eufloria (pretty game is pretty) Breath of Death VII (usually bundled with Cthulu) I'll probably buy this one. Current price is $4.07 at the time of this thread post. |

I already have 3 out of the 5 games, 2 of them DRM-free, I think I'll pass on this one :/. The DRM-free Eufloria is tempting though, I like stuff that my netbook can handle :3
OTOH...Really Big Sky looks really nice...too bad Runespell: Overture doesn't look that interesting to me :/

Grabbed it earlier when it was at $3.50. Totally worth it.
Eufloria is pretty neat, though after getting into Sins of a Solar Empire recently I can only see Eufloria as a simpler, calmer, more ambient version of SoaSE. Which isn't a bad thing, and in fact is a pretty great thing, since it's nice to zone out and watch your little seedlings spread life. Really Big Sky is a game you should not play if you are epileptic, might be epileptic, or even know somebody who is epileptic. The game is a total mindfuck of a shooter. It's one of those side-scrolling, constantly-advancing-to-the-right SHMUPS. Only you will never learn the patterns because there are no patterns. Every time you play the game the swarms of enemies are randomized, even the bosses (which I think come at determined intervals so it's not totally random). What is consistent are the upgrades you make to your ship by collecting these fragments after you blow up an enemy. The upgrades range from shooting faster to stronger bullets to getting a shield so you don't die in one hit. (there are more but I won't list them all) To make things more interesting there are also random events. I think there are wormholes and cascade events and other stuff, but the game doesn't tell you this. Usually after a boss you will accelerate to warp speed making things much harder. Some times the screen color will invert and the music will shift. Or you might fly through a black hole and need to kill a bunch of skeletal dinosaur heads that shoot bullets at you. But wait, that's not all. There are also planets! At the press of a button you switch from your guns to a drill, and while you can't shoot you can drill through planets. This is necessary since you can't dodge a fucking planet. But coming back to those random events I mentioned, there will often be meteor showers while you're speeding along at super speed with a hundred enemies on your screen. Crashing is an instant death even if you upgraded your shield, so it becomes a hectic clusterfuck of colors where you try to switch to your drill in the nick of time or dodge a meteor all the while trying to dodge enemy fire while returning fire and oh my god the fucking colors what is going on. Oh and there are also a bunch of other game modes like boss rush, arcade, hell mode (super hard), nightmare mode (super duper duper hard), peaceful (infinite lives so you can just have fun), and a few others. ... Damn I wrote a lot about Really Big Sky. But yeah it's pretty fun if you like your shmups. I recommend using a controller though, since dual-stick is easier that WASD + mouse, but that's just me. And I have yet to play the other games. |
