So I guess due to the large difference in difficulty implementing a snail-mail method vs. online, we'll go with something online. This way, at most we only need a valid email address for each other or a friend request in, say, Steam.

We're aiming for around 10-15 dollars (US) as a general guideline, but I don't think you should feel bad for going a little under or over. Just don't go waaay over and make everyone feel like a cheapass.

Viable Online Outlets / Ideas
Steam - games, addons, DLC, etc.
Digital Gift Cards (e.g. Amazon, iTunes, major retailers often have digital versions online)
Microsoft Live points, Wii Points, etc. (example: you buy the card, but you send the code to your recipient for him/her to use)
Audio Books
invites/subscriptions to audio/video streaming services (e.g. Hulu, Netflix)
Groupon
