So, curing infant AIDs

Now keep in mind this probably wont help with adults since, once HIV is entrenched it becomes very hard to treat. Also this hasn't been replicated yet so its still a "maybe"

but hey a baby doesn't have to worry about AIDs, I'm calling this a win.

Because science is fucking awesome!

I mean, if the trail went as far as human experimentation with success, then we know things are moving up very nicely since this is usually one of the very last steps in developing medical treatment. We should see much faster progress in coming years...

Maybe we can't cure HIV on adults, but if we can treat children or maybe even inoculate them somehow in the near future, that would be fantastic.

At the very least HIV can very well be gone after a few generations, assuming that for-profit manufacturing doesn't make the price ridiculous . . .

Ok, so we'll probably still have HIV for a while, but at least we know that we can cure the early stage, so it also brings science closer to curing the late-stage symptoms.

I think a medical patent is only like five years, so that wouldn't be an issue for long. Besides if I read it right it wasn't a specific drug but a particular combination that did it. So it was the treatment method that was the big discovery

it's a medical cocktail that a lot of countries provide for free (although quite a few via NGO's and other groups and not directly by the government) today is likely for someone to live a full natural life with HIV, if they have access to the medication properly. Which is a good thing, but this is better.

it would appear this ain't just a thing for infants now. 14 adults in remission.

Now, they aren't CURED but the level of HIV is so drastically low that their body can effectively suppress it and maintain control. Huge step forward.

still early treatment, it would seem AIDs might become like tetanus. Only an issue if you dont get to it right away. Unfortunately unlike tetanus you dont have a clear indicator of risk. Two very different types of penetration to worry about
