I'm having a moral and ethical crisis

Ok, so I saw Pacific Rim in the theater four times (would have been five but Pippy had to cancel the meetup), bought the art book, bought the soundtrack, bought an action figure (which will be here as soon as the post office gets off its fat kiester) AND I am buying the DVD once it comes out on physical media on the 15th. I feel that I can maaaaaaaybe get away with torrenting the digital release to do a livestream of it before then, but as the title says, it's a moral struggle. One that I have personified below.

So, I need you guys to break the tie. Yea or nay?

Well if you look at emulators and ROMs, it's illegal to download ROMs but it's perfectly legal to rip the ROM of a game you own to make your own backup. Or you can be lazy and go "I don't want to rip my own ROM so I'll just grab a backup that was already ripped."

So if you go ahead and download the digital version of Pacific Rim then you're just being lazy in ripping your personal backup, in a non-linear fashion.

So technically you could view this as time traveling.

I say do it.

That may be the cutest representation of Bahamut and Tiamat I've ever seen.

However, I'd suggest that this is more of an ethical crisis than a moral one.

In any event, the following points (and questions and how you answer them) may help you come to a decision.

1) You are giving financial support in every reasonable way.

2) You are giving moral support in most every reasonable way.

3) Do you, then, feel you are justified in looking at something that is captured by someone else?
- 3a) Do you trust the torrent site?
- 3b) What is your motivation in wishing to live-stream the thing?
- 3c) Are you going to be okay with yourself after this is done?

4) Are you really seeking a solution, or just validation?
4a) ... validation because you wish to do something now instead of exhibit patience?
4b) ... validation because you wish to show your own moral superiority to the preponderance of the internet?
4c) ... validation regardless of your ultimate decision?
(By the way, none of these are expressly wrong, unless they're your primary motivation. But seeking validation, especially "4c" is totally cool.)

"4" is also a way of asking, ...

5) Have you already made up your mind?

Regardless of your ultimate decision (I'm presuming certain answers to the questions above), Shyria, I, for one, think you'll be fine. You give them support. You are actively supporting them financially, socially, and in all ways that it's reasonable.

My only personal hesitations are the "What are your motives for live-streaming?" thing and the "Can you trust the torrent-site not to give your computer a bajillion things it doesn't want?" thing.
