In a world where the last Gauntlet game I played was so long ago that I can't actually even remember which it was anymore, a remake seemed kind of stupid and questionable. But after a night of playing Gauntlet with a few friends I'm absolutely in love.
As far as I can remember it, everything is there. The chaos of fights, spells flying back and forth, items and food exploding because the wizard can't keep his goddamn lightning in check for one fucking second. Implicit and explicit threats to your life over something as stupid as who gets to carry the key to the next room. God it's fun.

The Gauntlet I remember had everyone throwing their weapons/shooting arrows/shoot magic and using TURBO ATTACKS.
This new Gauntlet looks like it was inspired by Hammerwatch, which was inspired by the old Gauntlet games...What I'm saying is, if I want to play it, why not just play Hammerwatch which was a goddamn dollar a couple weeks ago? |

I dunno anything about Hammerwatch to be honest. I just really like the new Gauntlet.

Can confirm, great game. This version of Gauntlet hearkens back to the days of brutal unforgiving punishment. Not an homage, nod, or inspired by. This be the real deal.
I've lost more food to panicking as Questor when being cornered by an army of grunts and orcs while trying to escape another horde of orcs...while trying to dodge the floating skulls of orc shaman. That's just from playing solo. When some chums get their copy undoubtedly it'll be all the more chaotic. Top stuff! |
