Asking for advice:Upstate New York NPFers

So here's the story. I was just up in Niskayuna, NY for an interview and it turns out I got the job. This means I get to move out of the Ohio valley and go someplace with brand new to me.

Over the next few months my chief concerns are going to be finding an apartment around there with reasonable rent and around people in their mid-20s. Also I'll need to be finding a car that will be able to last and drive me around up there without risk of getting stuck in a snow mound too easily, I just don't think my '94 Saturn Tupperware-car is up to the task.

Which brings me to asking for advice from anyone here on NPF who knows far better than I what to expect and if they've got any sort of guidance to give me. Thanks in advance.
