Stories like this restore some of my faith in humanity.

Not just that the mom let her son dress the way he wanted for Halloween, and not just that she encouraged and defended him, but that she wasn't the only one who did. His friends didn't care, either, which is pretty awesome. I wish this kid all the luck in the future, whether he's gay, straight, bi, etc.

When I first started reading the first quote I was apprehensive, because I was worried that it was going to start applying sexuality labels to bloody 5 year olds.

And then I read the rest and now I second the Internet High Five. Positive role modelling right here, for both Boo's classmates and just the world in general.

Surprise factor on parents ABC: low. This was a Christian school. That it was a hotbed for this kind of attitude is like saying grass is green.

That mom deserves a medal, though.

Sadly, decking stupid people doesn't generally fall under positive role modeling where five-year-olds are concerned.
