Pitching idea: NPF Secret Santa?

So, just a silly thought that crossed my mind, and i rather shared it than to the proper time frame to talk about.

Just what would you guys think of it? a Simple Secret Santa here on NPF, for Christmas. It would work like this.

Each one would get a number. representing the number of people playing. Only that person would know their own number. And one person would track who has each number, just to avoid duplicates.

Then, a 3rd person would pair those numbers up, without knowing who has which number (only knowing how many numbers there are). and the person who knows who has each number would them reply to each participant, informing who their secret Santa is.

...or maybe there is a better way? I dunno.

Then, you would have the Gifts. Those would be limited to 5$ or maybe 10$ Online Gift Cards or 5$ or 10$ Games gifted on STEAM or similar websites.

Either way, just tossing this idea around

It sounds like fun, the only issue I could see arising is if not everyone playing had the necessary info for transference of gifts (ie steam account info, account info at other site purchasing a gift card for, e-mail, etc.) and it wouldn't be too secret if everyone's first instinct is to pm the person (their getting the gift for) asking for their steam account name. The other option is to have the person who knows everyone's names/numbers act as an relay to get the necessary information but that still takes out some of the surprise of the gift if not the giver (although they could request additional unnecessary information to hide exactly what their getting), and it requires one person collecting everyone's information.

Maybe it would work easier if one person was in charge (and wouldn't be involved in the gift giving, sadly) and everyone would contact them filling out something like

Screenname:
Things I'd like:
Available accounts:

So there they would give some ideas about the kinds of things they're into/games they play/cheap games they might want, and then supplying to screennames to their steam account/whatever so that such things can be gifted to them without the secret santa having to be obvious about it. The person in charge mixes the people up and PMs/E-mails out the secret santas.

Well, NPF does have a Steam group and most likely there will be a holiday sale... so yeah. Of course, that is if every Steam using NPF forum user has joined the community group and prepared to do a Secret Santa event. Anyways, I'll get behind it if this actually happens.

Well, to make things a bit streamlined it wouldn't be hard to ask everyone to set a couple of places where a gift given might be useful. I for one, don't own a Steam account, but i wouldn't mind one bit setting one up to gift someone or to receive one from here. But i would also be happy with a Gift Card from any webstore that also lets me use my Paypal account to pay
