So we are clear

Trying to get enough basics down to run some alpha games. I mentioned it before on here I think but most of the mechanics I had in mind I scrapped anyways.
Its a game based purely around psychic powers in its various flavors. The game will have two dice systems. First is a straight forward d100 system running on the usual "roll under your score" system. I might avoid physical modifiers like a base intelligence or strength for simplicity. Or have that but as a kind of optional perk system. Like you can spend points at character creation to have your character be "smart" to give a bonus to related rolls. Your powers are based on a d10 system based on number of successes like the storyteller system used in world of darkness. Your score in a psychic ability determines your number of dice. But you also have a static power rating going from 1-10. Success is rolling your power rating or lower on the die. The point of this is to make clear and obvious exponential growth. Starting off your character, no matter how skilled with their powers, simply wont have the power to do much with them. But reach level 10 and every die is a success, granting you complete control of your powers. To keep players from simply never using their powers I created "focus" your focus score starts at one and cant be raised above your power score. It lets you spend a turn to make one of your dice an automatic success. Still working on how you regen it. Thats pretty much what I have so far

is it combat focused or puzzle focused?
Also, do you need D100 and D10? I get it why you're doing it, and if it's just to remain within your own group of friends, is fine. But if there is any idea of making it outside of that circle, simplifying your dice setup goes a long way. But that would force you to work with D6. a cool thing you can try work with and tradeups on powers... could be a way to work with focus. As in, if i focus to expand my range, it will be slower to trigger the effect. Or if i focus on the power effect, it's range will shrink up... stuff like that. Regen could just as well be ''point for point'' as in, i can boost my Range "by +2" and that would take 2 Turns to regen back. Or i can boost my range "By +2" and reduce my speed "by -1" and the regen of that would be 1 turn instead... y'know? Get some strategy in there. The trade up can also be physical, like, your movement rate gets reduced because you are focusing... A great study case is checking what X-Com Enemy Within does... |
