On a normal station, yeah. But the owners of this place want to keep it absolutely sterile. They're motto is that anyone from age 3 to 103 should be able to listen to us without incident. And they specifically mentioned innuendo to me during my interview. I could try to argue them into getting with the times and granting just a little more leniency to a show's content, but I don't want to push my luck, being the new guy and all.
Though I have been continually pushing for a 5-second delay, as I've heard they aren't too difficult to implement.

Country huh, the closest I've come to that in the last 7 years is probably this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aS0rX4rMx9E
But seriously, TED.com, "Ideas worth sharing." They are just begging to be shared!

Hmm, I could drive a few hours east and listen to the radio station in my car so you get higher ratings. I need you to send me gas money, though. A hundred dollars should suffice.
How do they measure ratings, anyway?

Or you could just stream it.

Hey, I like NPR and all but I don't listen to the music, I listen to the talk shows. I can't stand NPR's music. This station looks like a similar format, where it tries to be eclectic and have all kinds of different music and talk and so forth. You should get a talk show instead, though I can't say what you should talk about. Are video games cultural yet? The only one ever mentioned on NPR was Flower, which was lame.
But yeah I can stream you, that'll work. You should focus more on rock, though, there are more than enough country stations, let me tell you.

Sounds good. And as of right now there are no real talk shows on the station, aside from some financial talk. Of course without a delayed broadcast any call ins would have to be screened and planned beforehand.
I'd be thrilled if you guys would want to help me out with something like that. Not sure if video games would fly with our demographic though. Politics on the other hand... We broadcast to the Republican heartland. You guys would have a field day.

I think you'll probably need to get other people involved if you want to do more than just DJ music, because the kinds of shows on NPR and so forth involve like, prerecorded essays on particular topics and stuff like that. I probably misnamed them when I called them talk shows, I'm not sure what they're called. A talk show might be easier to do, if you have callers, but if you don't even have a co-host I don't think it would work.
Anyway, you're just one guy, that's probably why the station mainly plays music, because that's all one guy at a time can realistically do, you see. Maybe you could play some kind of interesting genre of music that no one else is playing on the station, or something. Also, about demographics, as far as public radio goes, the demographic changes with the show, usually. You tune in to the shows you like, unlike with say an all-rock station or an all-country station, which is specifically catering to a group of people all the time, a public station caters to a specific group for a few hours and then switches to another group.

What about rock music with some light geek talk in between? I could easily recruit a friend or two for cohosting or screening.
