Ffffff- The Dentist

Soooo, let us share our Dental Woes.

A few years back i had a bad cavity that turned into a Root Canal, Spitting blood and all that... i managed to get it fixed, but here is the problem. It was poorly done! A small piece of cavity at the very base od the tooth passed to the tooth next to it, which went straight for the root.

...second root canal!

You think the story is over? I wish! Got a new Dentist to take care of it, but i was stupid. It was a recomendation from my old dentist... result? Poorly done job AGAIN! But this time i wouldn't know it for 2 and a half years...

You see, the Dentist basically hollowed out the tooth to threat the Canal. But she let a tiny tiny space open in the base of the tooth. over the years, each time i eat, food went behind it. Until one day i putted a mentos in my mouth... and there you go. The entire face of the tooth crashed to pieces!

Went to another Dentist, who this time confirmed what i already knew... poorly done job with cheap materials.

So, i had a metal block in one of my teeth and lost pretty much the entire crown of the one next to it. The only solution? A pin and a Permanent prosthetic tooth all and all, this little story will cost me well into 3k.

This week i started the final steps to end this story. New Dentist, this time a great one, really pleased with him... but the process itself is still quite unpleasent ... i had to remove a small portion of the gum to expose more of the Tooth, so i could place the pin. I should remove the stitches next week, and next month i should get the Ok to place the pin.

Yeah... not cool. But all and all, at least this is going to end well soon enough.

So, come on come on... share your tales!

I started with braces at the age of 12. Switched orthodontists twice until we found one who seemed good at what they did.
Cut to 4 years later, we're in Australia and my new orthodontist is telling us that the problem can't be fixed with braces. Only way is surgery. We got a couple of second opinions, and yep, it appeared that this was correct.

Surgery went well, I had it done right after I finished school, and the guy who did it was more or less the best there is. So that was all cool.

Well, except for the fact that I spent 4 years running around with unnecessary braces. and I do believe that cost my parents a pretty penny. So yeah, screw german orthodontists.

My teeth are perfect if just a tiny bit worn and a tiny bit yellow...

I have wisdom teeth coming in, one of them is in straight and I probably won't do anything about it. Another one is crooked as hell, but it isn't coming in, so until it does, I'm not doing anything about it.

I have no idea what you're talking about.

Also, before you get to make fun of my english, I totally request that you learn to speak fluent german. Fair is fair.

Also, totally not paying.

For the amount they charge dentists should consistently be good at what they do. Unfortunately that's not the case. I would be pissed if I had to keep paying someone to fix their shoddy work.

...Although I simultaneously want to chastise anyone who lets a cavity sit and grow to the point it needs a root canal. As poor as I am I make sure to go to the dentist at least twice a year so that stuff is taken care of before it gets really bad. I may be wrong in assuming that you don't go to the dentist regularly, though- given that your dentist sucks it's wholly possible that they just ignored it during check-ups anyways.

I've never had a bad dental experience except when my wisdom teeth were removed, and then that was only for about 2 hours. I waited too long to take the codeine so when the anesthetic wore off it was quite painful. However, it was also kind of fun to pretend I was zombie when I took out the gauze and my mouth filled up with blood.

The first root canal was totally my fault, I paid dearly for my laziness. The second one, though, was something called "acute cavity" or something like that. Doesn't hurt, doesn't bleed, you can barely notice, it's small, near the gumm area and goes straight for the root, i only noticed when the dentist noticed while checking something else...

I have never been to a dentist... Seriously. Like never. No problems with my teeth that I am aware of, save one. My bottom front teeth are a little crooked.
I brush and floss daily, and if I have cavities, which I highly doubt, as I have heard that cavities WILL start to hurt like a mother, they are like... ninja cavities. Four wisdom teeth came in just fine, and I don't have sensitivity to hot and/or cold. Unless I drink something cold after a particularly hot shower or something.. Go figure.
You may ask why I have never been to a dentist and my only reasonable answer to that is, I treat dentists like other doctors... I go when I have a problem.

This logic collapses only when I admit that I do go for a yearly check up with my GP.
Fuck logic though.

Well, if you're too lazy to floss every day (I am, but I brush) then it's good to get them cleaned and checked out once in awhile. If most of your teeth are straight and evenly spaced that makes a big difference too- crooked teeth or teeth that are too close together can be more difficult to keep clean.

When I was younger I went to various different dentists and they all said I should get braces, however my parents didn't have the money and we didn't see why I needed them as my teeth appeared fine. Well, it's been several years and now my teeth are starting to get all crooked and awful, so I guess they weren't wrong. So when I get dental insurance I'll have the fun experience of being a 22 year old with braces.
