I'm just fascinated with that bank robber. In all the movies he watched as a child, and I assume there was many, did anyone's face ever disappear from the screen for any reason? Did bank robbers not wear masks? Did anyone ever discuss this method of disguise compared to others, in movies or outside? Did anyone even ever act as if they had any idea that this remarkably simple, well-known and incredibly useful trick existed? Did he ever take a picture of someone who had lemon juice on them? Did he examine the difference of the effect of lemon juice on the face compared to other parts of the body? Did he do his research by taking a picture of himself?

The answer to all of the above must be no. This isn't just a singular glitch in the logic process. It's as if this bit of non-knowledge probably imparted by a playground friend existed in his mind in a complete vacuum separate from every possible connection to knowledge itself. I don't see how else could he fail to ask himself such basic questions as "If this works, why don't people do it?" or even "Is there some way I can test if this works before I gamble my life on it?"

I don't see whats so bad about selling your kids. Kids get better life, you get better life, people who bought them get better life- everybody wins. Like assuming you sell them to people who aren't like sex-trafficking drug lords.

Really the surprising thing is how much they got for them, particularly in china where you can get in trouble for having excess children.

The better solution would probably be to not have kids in the first place if you're going to sell them, but what are you going to do when you're denied sexual education and there's a free market. It's like adoption except it'll also tend to redistribute wealth to the poor. As long as you're competent to decide the buyers are going to be decent parents of course. Adoption agencies may be better for that really.

Precisely. The whole reason you aren't allowed to sell your kids is you are going to sell them to the highest bidder. Drug lords and sex traffickers pay way more than poor old sterile Mr. and Mrs. Li down the street

Dude, what the cluck?!

I mean seriously... All this for $2.90?!

Quote:
A former Walmart employee in Alabama has filed a lawsuit against the retail behemoth, alleging that she and her husband were wrongly accused of stealing $2.90 in chicken neck bones, an accusation the plaintiff says led to her losing her job and having her husband deported.
Note to self. Alabama is not a place to raise smart people.

That...really doesn't seem real.
At all.

Not even considering that even if this whole thing went to trial, which it pretty clearly wouldn't. $2.90 worth of goods would at worst be a misdemeanor offense. There's no way a case would go through for deportation over that.

There are two novels that can change a bookish fourteen-year olds life: The Lord of the Rings and Atlas Shrugged. One is a childish fantasy that often engenders a lifelong obsession with its unbelievable heroes, leading to an emotionally stunted, socially crippled adulthood, unable to deal with the real world. The other, of course, involves orcs.

I'm still confused. Among other things, it claims that the INS was involved in 2007 when it ceased to exist in that name in 2003. That's the least crazy part of the story though. Are you sure the website you pulled that from is legit? o_O

Not surprised that this is real. Just one of the many things Americans aren't proud about their country doing.
