I just bought it today (the release date totally took me by surprise) and I played about 4 hours straight of it.
This is the game the series has been looking for. I think they've hit their niche here. No health regen, but health capsules are common enough to keep you alive if you're careful. Weapon wheel returns, no more scrambling for ammo so you don't have to pick up that bullseye on the ground. Speaking of the bullseye the new jumpy hybrid enemy makes this weapon pretty awesome. Upgrade system not too different from the Ratchet & Clank series, now that each weapon has two steps of awesome after dealing enough damage with each. The graphics, oh man the graphics. It's too the point where in certain situations, like when electricity is arcing nearby a pile of grim cocoons, it looks real. A couple new weapons, with the creativity that is trademark to Insomniac. All I'll say. I've only seen a couple of bugs (one put me halfway through the floor when I punched a grim) which I'm sure will get ironed out in the inevitable updates. Overall I fully recommend this game to other PS3 owners. I may take a shot at the multiplayer tomorrow. Anyone else already playing it or planning to play it? |

I'd probably be interested if I was more into FPS games. Played the multiplayer beta. Seemed to be Call of Duty with a dash of Halo in the multiplayer, which wasn't bad. Had some balance concerns, but it was fun. If you're someone who's into FPS games, you will probably enjoy this game.

I pre-ordered from Amazon.ca because I wanted the air-fuel grenade for the campaign. BIG MISTAKE. Those assholes haven't even shipped the game yet. It should ship tomorrow, meaning I might get it on Friday, but I'm not holding my breath. Last time I ever pre-order a game from amazon.ca, pre-order bonuses be damned.
Anyway it sounds like they're going back to their Fall of Man roots, which is fantastic (because Resistance 2 was pretty terrible compared to R1 gameplay-wise). Also I saw in a review that the Widowmaker is back, which is awesome because those guys were pretty nasty in FoM. Now if only the Gray Jacks didn't die out. Dozens and dozens of Grims? Psh! Try having 4 or 5 Gray Jacks running at you. Now that's terrifying. Also Aldurin, what's your PSN ID? I'm gonna want a co-op buddy once I play through this game solo. |

So fuck amazon.ca. Hate those fuckers so much. Long-ass rant time.
Anyway, I love R3. It reminds me of FoM a lot, which is fantastic. I'm glad they brought back the pseudo-new-game-plus by letting you keep your upgrades on a second playthrough. The campaign has some pretty fantastic moments too, though I'm a little disappointed they didn't bring back the Howlers, 'cause those would've made some great feral Chimera. But still, while leaving Pennsylvania, oh my god the Widowmaker stampede was pretty fucking awesome. Also I tried the multiplayer, but there are some serious lag/framerate issues that I guess they are working on, so I think I'll wait for the next patch before I give the MP another go. |
