So as you know I have to steal internet from various places, the most useful being the uni because it is very fast. So I sit in the library or student commons or do so. I have my suitcase with me its not term time so this never causes a problem. UNTIL TODAY.
I'm in the library where desks are in alternate facing rows of 2 so each area is like a block of 4. There is one other person I can see in the library so I took up a whole block but not too close to the toilets/drinking fountains/stairwells/bookshelves so this seat won't be in demand. Now despite from my desk being able to see 50 empty desks and me being only being able to see a small fraction of the librarys desk some dick face comes over and demands to sit at the desks behind me in the same block.

It's like when you're sitting on a beach, and there's nobody else on the beach for 2 miles in either direction, but sooner or later some fucker will turn up and set up camp 20 feet from you. Probably with screaming kids in tow.

Or when you park in a car park that can accomodate 100 cars but only 20 of them are currently in use, so you pick a spot with 4 spaces either side or whatever only to come back an hour later to find 2 fucking tank sized SUV things on either side of you, despite the fact there's still a ton of spaces everywhere else.

Happens to me in the half-empty movie theater all the time.

There are a thousand places you could sit and have space in every direction! Please do not sit directly in front/behind/next to me!

I sometimes think people THINK I want to be near them in the theater, but really I just want to sit in the center.

People who sit on the edges in an empty theater make little sense to me. As little sense as people who sit next to you for no reason.

Anyway, I've always followed the "at least one seat" buffer rule, unless there is absolutely no space in the thing at all as that has happened a few times, then you just have to take whatever seat there is.

This whole discussion also brings to mind the various unspoken urinal rules everyone is supposed to know: don't take the urinal next to someone else if there is another one free, don't look at them as you go to the bathroom, stare straight down or ahead, etc.
