For some reason I don't even remember seeing people use these emotes at all, even back when the comic was still updating. I might be mistaken however, I mean, it has been almost 10 years since the comic finished, right?

They got used in the update threads. At least, until the spam of "this is what will happen next update" fan-fiction using said emotes got so annoying that we made a rule against using them to write skits in the update threads. Those were simpler times.
