LOOOOOOOOOONG time lurker first time poster.
No. This ending is going in the exact same direction Nuklear Age's ending went. Villain who thinks everything is predestined, girl dead, super powered titans from opposite ends of the spectrum fighting and other supers being caught in the crossfire. No. I was completely depressed by the ending of NA. I never read it again. I won't read the sequel or Atomic Robo because of his propensity to end things as soul crushingly as possible for fun. Comic books are called "escapism" for a reason. If I want depressing drudgery that can only end sadly I'd be paying attention to my life instead of trying to escape it through the medium of the printed word. Look, I understand this is his comic and he can do what he pleases but Jesus Christ it's not funny. I can't even read "Warbot" because of it's sad, aching depression "Haha! Warbot has a cold lonely life and only wishes someone, somewhere, paid attention to the deep hurting he feels in the very core of his soul! How ZANY!!" I've been reading this thing from comic 45. I've bought the book, t-shirts, been doing everything I can to support this site and my reward is watching the slow, inevitable death of the characters I've been following for, literally, years? It's like if MST had ended with Mike hanging himself, or if, in the last episode of Arrested Development Kitty came back and shot them all before two full minutes of silence as she contemplates putting the gun to her head then finally does it. If I wanted to be depressed I'd read a newspaper or watch my bank account slowly drain as my car starts to die. This stuff? This stuff isn't cool. |

I'm just gonna throw this out there, but if you avoid fiction on the basis that it's depressing, you're missing out on a lot of brilliant shows and books.
Also, Brian has said it won't be a Nuklear Age ending, and I'm inclined to believe him. Nobody would really give a damn if the Light Warriors died. In fact, I'd say that would be a happy ending. As for Warbot, you don't have to like it, as Schadenfreude is not for all, but, in my opinion, Warbot>8-Bit.

Atomic Robo isn't depressing at all. It's got serious moments but as a whole it's just good fun. Check the FCBD stories on the main site, they're a good representation of what the whole series is like.
I don't buy that comic books are always escapism, either, because, well, because there are comics like Watchmen, V for Vendetta and Maus, and they're among the best comics have to offer. Not that there's anything wrong with escapistic comics per se, but I'd shy away from reducing an entire literary genre to "escapism." It's a bit like saying "poems always have to rhyme." I agree with the OP about the book - the first two thirds of it were great. And then the aliens come around, awaken the main character and then it went downhill from there.

I still can't see where the girl (8 BT) died.
She was just impaled by pure evil. Last thing I saw from her pretty much implied that she's still alive. Are we speaking of the same girl? Or did I miss something? Also: What Meister said about comic books and escapism.

I, for my part, LIKE the direction this is going!
It's like all the time of waiting for continuity to kick in finally paid of (of course, Brian will probably shatter this soon, but hey, for the time being...) I, however, agree with you about "Warbot in Accounting". This poor bot just makes me wanna hug him. Then, take out his hard-drive and plug it into a dating-Sim, so he can finally have all the love he ever wanted.

The endings are supposed to be soul-crushing. Its part of Brian's evil plot to make everyone else as much of a cave dwelling troll as he is. Just ask anyone that has worked with him, or posted in the forums for a long time. Everyone knows whats going on, we're just willing to ignore it as long as the comics stay funny. Example: WABOT in Accounting. One page of that comic will kill you inside like no part of Nuklear Age or 8-Bit ever ever dreamed of. |

Also: you only hurt yourself by not reading Atomic Robo. If my other works consist of jokes on the reader, then Atomic Robo is taking the reader on an adventure.

Keh, not all the Light Warriors deserve to die y'know. I'd be eternally saddened if RM kicks it. Granted he's RM and not even Brian could ever hope to kill him.
