In this thread I brag about vacationing in Oahu for the last week, and I will answer your questions about my trip if you have any.

Waikiki is more or less a tourist trap, but other areas of Oahu are really great. Swimming at Kailua beach was amazing. I also learned how to surf at Waikiki which, even in the middle of November was crowded with tourists.

Any of you boys and girls ever had the chance to go? We went on the cheap and it was great. It was really different than I expected. Once you get away from the tourists you pretty quickly find out how warm and inviting the culture is (everyone is 'auntie' or 'uncle'). There is a lot of variety when it comes to the food. For a quick sampling of common Hawaiian fair, Zippy's is a pretty good joint and they're all over the place. And then Leonards for desert. Better if you get fed by friends and family though.
