...Because of this. Yes, yes, I know it's a buzzfeed article, meant to generate controversy and constructed to be as mindless as possible and bait people into clicking it. But I still can't pick my jaw up off the floor.
The responses seem to fall into the following categories: 1. "I am chattel and my body belongs to my husband/future husband/Jesus." 2. "I want my body to be as organic and natural and toxin-free as possible. I don't know what science is." (Presumably the woman who says she doesn't take birth control because she wants her body to be organic is planning to sell her meat at top market value?) 3. "Although I enjoy sex, I abstain from things that make me feel good because they are sinful and/or it makes me feel morally superior." 4. "Because choosing NOT to use birth control makes me responsible. I think? IDK how that works but it does." 5. "Because being fertile makes you a [flower] womanly woman with the womanest of womahoods." Note, I do not have any problems with people choosing not use birth control- I merely take issue with the pseudoscience disseminated around it, the idea that sex is sinful and/or your body does not belong to yourself, that not using birth control is somehow more responsible than using it, and that being fertile and/or being a mother somehow makes you more of a woman than women who can't or chose not to have kids.
