Stubbies were scary. Try trade with stubby and rock fall on head, why? We no hurt stubbies. Wesa good Gobs. Stubbies no scary now. Stoopid stubbies make chop chop leader. Chop chop no good. I escape soon, chop chop no know. Bring back army, take baby stubbies, make stubby army, and rock fall on stubby head. Stubby know then, Gobs best. Chop chop chop chop.

Actually, with all that open space and potential, a thought occurs.

We could probably set up something akin, to, say, a Tower Defense run for the gobs. Or a psychotic sprint to stay alive. Or a combination of them. Hell, with all that space, why are we limiting ourselves?!

And where's the overseer? I swear, kids these days. They take one look at the Economicon and scamper off, muttering about demons from other dimensions. In my day...

Because the "towers" need to be manned, and training crossbowdwarves can get quite... resource-intensive.

We could build a massive tribute to the Economicon? I've been experimenting with constructions lately...

I don't think a library with magma running through it would be practical. I mean sure it would look pretty flashy, but paper + heat = A Bad Thing.

We could perhaps create some channels out in the open space, running along the surface of the world in the shape of the letters WORKGILL, and THEN fill it with lava.

It would be like a giant lava based signpost pointing to the fortress... that's only visible from space! We could even do an arrow!

It's practical, flashy, and it gives you something to read.

No, see, what we do is the following. We build this huge dome. The dome is rigged in some way so that huge pressure can be created in it using magma. The high-pressure dome is connected to a pipe. Or, perhaps, several pipes. There's a gate between the dome and the pipe and the end of the pipe and the outside world. There's also a contraption allowing us to place ammunition near the entrance from pipe to dome. What we do is create huge pressure within the dome, place a book (or goblin, or other object) near the entrance, open all gates and bam. Supersonic book. (Or goblin. Or troublesome noble. Or, if we're boring, rock). And if we're ever close to defeat we can fire the economicon out of it and end the world.

Hell, if we build two of them we could really smash atoms.

Hell, forget everything I just said, let's just build a magma-powered LHC.

I wonder if we can build some sort of artificial volcano using that dome idea. Build a dome, fill it with lava, then remove the support columns that the entire structure is resting upon cuasing the entire magma dome to fall to the earth... from say, 10 z levels up.

What happens then is anyones guess.
