I'm going to say that each episode is like a remake of that game. (ep 1 is sonic 1, ep 2 is sonic 2, ect) with the last ep being entirely new stages. Which makes me won't to buy but not that badly.

~But~ Yeah sonic is now officially ruined forever. It will never sell well again regardless of how good it's newer games might be.

Looks like Mario really is the best of the 2 since he's still going to be kicking around a little longer.
Mario's community got torn a bit with Super Mario Galaxy because of some stuff - ice flowers, bee powerup - but that part is too small to matter. Sonic's community has reduced to "it's the same so it sucks" and "it's different so it sucks" for the last five years at least.

I never did play Sonic 1 a lot, but I'm pretty sure some of the stuff in that first stage was from Sonic 2, with some random Sonic 3 enemies mixed in, plus lots of new stuff. While the boss of the first stage was the same, being a throwback to the older games, he at least changes - although a bit too late to make a noticeable change in the fight, but eh.

Having never played any of the 3D games but Adventure, I only have one gripe with the Sonic series currently: lots of paths, 90% of them being bottomless pits which just screw you. I didn't see any in these videos.

And that's why it won't sell well or at all. Sonic fans have pretty much pissed off Sega. They'll refuse to buy it and well bash it for being a clone. Were as Sega will either drop the blue blur or market him towards a new audience (most likely the younger fans). Which is sad because aside from it being too much like the old games, Sonic 4 is pretty damn good. (I give a 8.6/10 so far)

Smooth, 3D animation in 2D games always makes them feel a bit slow for me. That said, I like that they brought over the homing jump. That was one of the good things the 3D games introduced.

Speaking of slow, was his run always that silly trot before he started to get going? That stands out as awkward.

Well, it didn't look like he was sauntering, but it was pretty awkward back then too. Then again, he never ran up till now; he just had either a wheel-of-feet or an odd walking animation that didn't sync up with his movement speed.

My God.

I didn't realize that Sonic Team's idea of a 2D Sonic game was...simply doing the original Sonic the Hedgehog all over again.
Was it too difficult to convey the message that we wanted the 2D Sonic mechanics, but an entirely new gaming experience? Y'know, throw in Knuckles and Tails and a few crazy plot twists, take the Sonic 2 trek of all kinds of crazy and unpredictable worlds to explore...

...*sigh*

Another note: Having listened to Sonic 4's OST...holy crap is the OST atrocious. I mean the remakes of the original themes are decent by default, but the themes for places like Splash Hill and Lost Labyrinth make me somehow feel like Sonic 4 really should be Sonic 2, as Sonic 2 and Sonic 3+K's OSTS were both far superior.

...Anyone remember Ice Cap? Lava Reef? Sky Sanctuary? Freakin' Chemical Plant?
...How do they all sound so much better?

To be fair, the premise of sonic was already starting to get a bit thin by the third game.

Default The music is a serious concern. Even 3d Sonic had okay music.

You know what guys I am going to go ahead and say that I am 100% cool with sonic 4 ripping the shit off of Sonic 1. I am only disappointed that they didn't realize Sonic 3 had better material to rip off.

I'm familiar enough with Sonic to know that the actual level maps are quite different despite the obviously derivative nature of the tilesets, which is the right way to go about pumping for nostalgia.

That game doesn't look THAT bad, but the music and the minecart stage :gonk:, anyway, I don't think I'll be buying it, gotta get cavestory first , only 200 more wii points to go ...also, I don't like the episodic nature of Sonic 4, It's hard enough for me to get some wii points for a single game
