It's all about how it's a show about cute little horseys targeted at little girls but these 20-something male internet persons are the ones who watch it the most in a fit of hilarious irony.
That sounds pretty much exactly like something I'd do, but I couldn't bring myself to watch an episode yet.

It's a bit blown out of proportion I must say. I started watching after Mirai, Nonsy, AND then later Snake basically all masturbated about it on Twitter and here.
I get bored enough that I've actually watched 10 episodes, and it's good but as Meister said often a little TOO simple. Great for kids. Bridle Gossip WAS awesome though. |

it's, in it's own way, a "second coming" of 90's Cartoon Network spirit. remember those kid shows?

It's not that anyone is insulting you for liking what you like Snake, it's that, for about a week now, you have been jizzing all over the NPF and ruining the furniture because of this thing.
We get it, you like ponies. We don't need reminding of it in every post from now until Ragnarok.

EDIT: Yeah, okay, maybe I'm just weird and don't find this insulting because I jack it on a regular basis and don't think it's something bad.

Beyond that, if someone else brings up ponies, yeah, I'll respond? It's not like you wouldn't respond if someone brought up, say, your favorite videogame or your favorite movie. But what really is weird about this is how offended some of you seem to be over fanboyish enthusiasm for a completely harmless show about ponies. Given how popular fangasming is in general in nerd communities, why is this such a problem? Why is it okay for fans to gush all over the place about Homestuck, make Homestuck avatars, openly recoil against any Homestuck criticism, etc., and yet the minute someone wants to do for that for My Little Pony: FIM it's suddenly some catastrophic problem? I highly doubt any of you would give a damn if I was running around hyping Minecraft or Left 4 Dead. ...This isn't you making a principled stand, it's you saying fangasming over some things is appropriate but fangasming over a girl's show makes you feel uncomfortable. EDIT: It's not the masturbation reference in and of itself that insults me, it's the fact that many critics of MLP fans attack the fans by making overt sexual references to their love for their show, thus trying to demean them by comparing them to furries or suggesting they're finding some deranged sexual pleasure in drawings of little horses. Given that's not why I like the show, it's offensive to me when the comparison is often made as a way to slander people who happen to like the show. We're not all Rule 34, 4chan crazies. |

My Little Pony is serious business.
If I had to make a guess, I'd say the reason why it's so popular with the 20-somethings is because those people have sat through the commercials for the original toy line, and it's been firmly established that the universe in which these fairy unicorn things inhabit is a Fisher Kingdom of happiness, sunshine, and rampant diabetes. Then this show comes along, and the characters exhibit emotions besides glee and joy on a frequent basis, and the world takes on ever-so-slightly dark and edgy undertones. For any other franchise universe, this alone wouldn't be enough to draw attention, but we're talking My Little Pony here. Suddenly, the universe is infinitely more fleshed out than it was previously, and this contrast between then and now creates an illusion in people's minds that this show is somehow a Sugar Apocalypse of epic proportions. At least, since I've taken the time to analyze all this, I can skip watching the actual show for myself. I'm sure I saved myself many soul pains.

I really do not feel like I am putting up opposition worthy of these potentially drug-addled responses...
