Video Games DOSH QUEST: The Killing Floor Starter's guide and "I want more people to play" Thread

EDIT: Oh Derp, I forgot to show you where you can buy the game, Here. Also here for the game with character skins bundle.
Welcome!

Intro
Hi! I am Ramary, and unless you do NPF Steam Night, chances are you do not know who I am. I am a friend of Karesh, and he had me join in on one of the steam nights saying something along the lines of "Oh they all suck at video games" it was a golden opportunity for me. A few weekends of stomping later, I joined the forums proper because why the hell not.

Now, since I do not like being a worthless piece of shit all day and playing all these games (yes I do) I decided to make a guide/recruitment thing for one of my most played games right now, Killing Floor.

But just what IS Killing Floor oh mysterious stranger?

This video is the basic idea.

Okay not really, but there is a reason I linked that....

Killing Floor is a wave-based survival horror game in which you play a member of a squad of up to 6 in a destroyed England, thanks to the "Zed Specimens" twisted creations of an evil corporation (DAMN YOU CAPITALISM). Most games last for 10 waves, as well as an extra final wave where you fight the game's final boss. In between waves you can visit and buy weapons from the trader, some stingy bitch that actually expects British pounds to actually be worth something in a Zombie Apocalypse( Then again, how are you getting money from the specimens.....) and players can share money with their teammates if needed. Each player can pick one of 7 perk classes which level up as you meat certain criteria, as well as a character skin, which packs of extra skins can be bought at the steam store (or all of them with the game as a bundle).

I'm sorry, I still don't get the video...

OH RIGHT! Part of the game's charm is the voice acting

Good Lord The Voice Acting

The game's voice acting is basically everyone has a cockney accent and for an apparent squad of commandos, they seem to be having lots of fun with this. Doing everything from healing, to taking out certain weapons get you a quip from the characters.

Espeically sharing money.

I think the game is worth it for the VA alone...but there is plenty of other things to like. The actual gun play is some of the best I ever seen, and the weapons and perks are all different enough that boredom can be combated by just switching your perk. But before we talk about perks...

THE BAD GUYS
Let us talk about the Zeds/Specimens/Zombies/whatever

IMPORTANT: UNTIL JULY 22ND, THERE IS A CIRCUS SKIN ON EVERY BAD GUY, SO THEY DO NOT MATCH WHAT I DESCRIBE THEM AS, BE WARNED.

Clots
What they look like: Um....zombies...yeah these guys don't look very unique.

What they do: Clots are the mooks of the hordes. There is a lot of them, but they don't exactly serve as much of a threat. The only real thing to watch out for is that they can actually grab on to you, and thus making you unable to move till they are killed by someone

Bloats
What they look like: Big ol' fat guys, they carry around a meat cleaver.

What they do: Bloats puke on people, and the puke HURTS. If you are puked on, you will get a blocked screen as well as take fairly heavy damage overtime. A bit of puke comes out when they explode and die as well. They also are somewhat tough to take down.

Gorefast
What they look like: A dude that thought it would be an AWESOME idea to attach a sword to his arm....and attach his sword-less arm to his sword arm...

What they do: They slice and dice. Namely, as the name implies, once they see you, and get within a certain range, they will bumrush you and try and take you down. They also take a few hits more then a clot to take down.

Crawlers (SpiderBitches)
What they look like: Man-Spiders. They crawl on the ground and hop around a lot.

What they do: ...They crawl on the ground and hop around a lot. They also come in packs most of the time, and are very hard to hit when they are right at your damn feet. They are one of the more annoying of the baddies, luckily they are also pretty much the weakest as far has health goes.

Stalkers
What they look like: Invisible ugly naked ladies.

What they do: They cloak (poorly most of the time) and try and sneak up behind people to smack them. They are fairly fast, but they are not as bad as you would think because you can see them while invisible if you are close enough (or a Commando).

Husks
What they look like: A dude with a big ol' cannon on his arm.

What they do: Shoot the cannon. The only ranged baddie (besides final boss). He shoots a ball of fire, if hit by it you will be set on fire and take a bit of damage overtime. He is also fairly resistant to explosives and especially fire, but he can not outsmart boolet. He still has quite a bit of HP

Sirens
What they look like: ANOTHER NAKED CHICK. Still ugly, but not invisible and tied up.

What they do: SCREAM. LOUDLY. Sirens move slowly, and if someone gets within range, she screams, showing a big red sound orb-thing that expands around her. If you get hit by it you will lose HP (armor can not save you from her). She also has fairly high hp (about as much as a bloat) so shes also toughish to take down. Her screams can also destroy explosive weaponry in midair.

Scrakes
What they look like: A dude with a chainsaw

What they do: Take a wild guess

Be Lumberjacks?

Yes, AND YOU ARE THE TREE. Scrakes move slowly, think Michael Meyers in Halloween slow, and will start lumberjacking anyone's face that gets close. And they hurt. A Lot. However, once enough damage is done to them (75% of their HP) they go berserk and move really fast and rush at the closest person to chop them up. They have a lot of hp, and like the husk, does not take a lot of damage from fire or explosives, but they are a bit more effective vs scrakes then husks.

Flesh Pounds (RAPE TRAIN HAS NO BREAKS)
What they look like: Big bastards that glow yellow and have maces for hands (It was a good idea at the time)

What they do: KILL KILL KILL KILL KILL KILL

Specifically, Flesh Pounds are the GODDAMN JUGGERNAUT of the game. They start, like the scrake, walking. Walking very fast though, faster then you expect him to be. Once he takes enough damage in a short time span (it doesn't even need to be a lot damage eather) he will glow red, and the rape begins! Nothing can stand in his way in this state! Door? SMASH! Boolets? Runs at them laughing. Other Zeds? Bloody smears on his face. You? Well kid, you are gonna be a spectator soon let us just say that. He also has an insane amount of hp.
Ill go into greater detail with dealing with the flesh pound when I talk about perks (because he needs it).

THE PATRIARCH
What he look like: Um, this.
Yup.

OH SWEET JE-I mean, What he do: A LOT. He is the final boss, showing up at the final "extra" (11/10 usually) wave. He can.....
Shoot mini gun boolets
Shoot rockets
Smack you with his claw
Smack you with that....tentacle...thing
Cloak like the stalker (expect it is actually a GOOD cloak)
While cloaked, move faster then ANYTHING in the game
When weak, he can cloak and run, while calling in more baddies
If he gets away, he can heal himself, and can do it THREE times.
He can also wipe out your entire squad in about 10 seconds on NORMAL

There are so many methods of dealing with him I recommend just watching and learning if you are playing the game. But considering it is STILL a big deal to me to be in a squad that actually kills him, he is quite a monster to bring down.

BASIC TIPS

Spawning
When you spawn (at the start of the game or start of a wave after dying) you will only have a 9mm pistol, a knife and 3 grenades to your name. The first time you spawn you will have 250 dosh to spend. You get more dosh by killing baddies (each baddie type has a different "bounty") and living till the end of the wave (You get more dosh the later the wave is, as well as how many people are left alive, the fewer that live though the wave, the more money they get to spread around as they please). Exceptions come once you get to your level 5/6 perk. Once at these levels you will spawn with an extra item related to your perk. For example, a level 6 berserker will spawn with a chainsaw each time they spawn. There is also extra ammo and low tier weapons as well as armor(rarely) all over the map you can find and use/sell at your heart's content. When you die, you will also drop whatever weapon you were currently using. If someone picks it up, they can give it back to you when you respawn, or you can get it yourself, as it will never despawn over the course of the entire game (as far as I know).

Healing
Everyone can heal using a syringe. You can heal yourself (with Q) or you can take it out like a weapon and heal other players in the squad. The syringe has a %-based meter that recharges overtime. There are a few things to remember....
1. Healing yourself uses ALL 100% of the syringe's power.
2. Healing others uses only HALF of the power.
3. If you heal others, you will get a little bit of dosh, depending on how much you healed
Because of the above it is generally smarter play to not heal yourself at all UNLESS
A. There is no one around to heal you.
B. It is a emergency, and you are really low.
C. You are the medic perk
The reason for it being okay as medic is that as medic your syringe recharges much faster, and it is a better heal then the normal guys. You will also have the medic gun, which is like a ranged syringe attached to a SMG, and that has its own unique meter.
Of course it is also okay if...
D. Your team sucks just that much, and won't heal you.

WELDIN THE DOR

Everyone also comes equipped with a blowtorch. With it, you can weld and unweld doors to keep the baddies out of certain areas. This is usally used to prevent a flank, or cover an entry way if you are holding out in one place. The usefulness of welding is debatable, sometimes it can save the ass of you and your squad. However, there is times when you are the last guy left, running around kiting the baddies, and suddenly you are stoped dead in your tracks, because some fantastic assdouche just welded this door before he was killed by a bunch of clots. You are now that flesh pound's bitch.

Whelp, that is all I can think of for now, I will add to this guide later, namely with any extra tips here or a perk guide later on in the thread. Thanks for reading, and I hope to be seeing you in the Dosh Mines of London soon.

Special Thanks to....
Karesh- for giving the game as my Christmas present, as well as making our Berserker guide.
Overcast- for the sharpshooter guide.

I'LL DO THE MEDIC GUIDE NEXT, I SWEAR.

You know, I should really join you guys now that you've all started playing. Me and my level 5 perks and stuff...

Also, as for the Patriarch: Easiest way to kill him is to have everyone go berserker (or medic if you're higher level), use chainsaws, and surround him using the alt fire. Me and three other people I frequently play with have slaughtered him using that method. Basically he can't get away to heal because you've surrounded him and he's constantly taking damage, so unless one of you dies from one of the melee smacks he can get out he can't even completely retaliate.

Even better if you can lock him inside a room with you. Then he REALLY can't leave to heal and will just duke it out with you until one side dies. Really, though, this is just to ensure he doesn't get away even more.

And yes, that method works on hard and above, not just normal. It's how I've beaten some of the hard maps when nothing else worked, actually. From what I've heard it's how people normally beat him on Hell on Earth.

Oh god...now I know why were you surprised when I killed the glowy guy alone. As long as I'm online, you can message me if you want to play. I will play unless I'm actually busy, which isn't the situation right now and for about a month.

One correction, a Flesh Pound has numerous rage triggers. Dealing damage is one, but staying out of his range for too long can also trigger him to lose his shit. Even if you never hit him.

BERSERKER

Purpose
As a Berserker you act as a simultaneous destroyer of the enemy and tank. It's your job to be in the thick of it and delay the ever encroaching forces of the Infected from their destination: Your squishy rear line of ranged attackers.
To help in this you'll receive significant reduction to damage taken, melee attack boosts, and your running speed while holding a melee weapon will be improved beyond what a regular class gets.

Weapons

The only class that so heavily depends on it's melee weapons. You'll start with a knife, and then work your way up through to Axes, Katanas and Chainsaws. Each of these three has a purpose and knowing the difference between one or the other could be mean life and death for you. Each has two fire modes, default settings for controls put these as your left mouse button and your middle mouse button. The left provides quick strikes, and the middle is longer but more powerful strikes. The only exception is the Katana, which has the distinction of comparatively weakened critical strikes on decapitating strikes. (Aimed at the head)

The machete is fucking worthless. You'll spawn with enough pounds to buy an Axe, which is a far better weapon in the late game and only suffers for lesser speed early on.

The axe provides slow but consistent DPS. It's absolutely acclaimed on higher difficulties for that consistent high damage. While you won't be slaughtering quite so many infected those you hit will almost universally be slaughtered. With competent teammates covering the slaughter of the lesser infected you're free to perform your main job of tanking and spanking down Scrakes.

The Katana swings fast, but has significantly less damage per hit than an Axe. It absolutely slaughters clots and will mop up almost any of the infected up to the Scrake lickity split. That is, if you can get into melee range. When it comes to things like Sirens or Bloats, their attacks can be difficult to avoid long enough for your quick attacks to kill them without taking harm yourself.

The Chainsaw operates far faster than the Katana, but lacks the boosts to runspeed that the other melee weapons have. If you're in a group that intends to hunker down in one spot for lengthy periods, this is the way to go. It's higher damage output will help, and your lack of improved running speed won't matter.

For guns, you'll have to make a preference choice. Most favor the lever action rifle for good consistent damage against enemies you'd rather not engage and its cheaper ammunition. But personally I rather like the single shot grenade launcher, which will demolish wave after wave of Crawlers.

Tactics

You'll want to keep moving constantly. Even with your reduced damage taken, and even if your team is holding it's ground in some fortified place, dodging is your key to survival. You have to avoid Crawlers, the sirens screams, the blasts of the Husk, the Barf of the Bloat and in dire situations you'll need to kite Flesh pounds.

But more important than dodging the immediate attacks of the enemy, your maneuvering will prevent them from surrounding you. Being surrounded is practically a death sentence. Unless you carve your way out and run or have a friendly nearby to help, you'll be absolutely screwed.

Specifically however:

Clots: Cut them down. Your perk provides immunity to their grabbing, so the only concern is being surrounded. You'll slaughter clots in droves.

Bloats: If you're feeling gutsy you can take a swing at the head for a kill, but more practically you'll learn to keep a gun of somesort with you. Even if it's just your pistol, whip it out and go for the headshot to quickly move back into your melee weapon.

Gorefast: Almost as laughably easily killed as Clots, you'll need to be careful to avoid the charges, but other than that just take a swing at the head and be done with the bastard.

Crawlers: Your living nightmare. The crawler is tough to hit, sneaky, and they come in packs. If at all possible, back off and slaughter them with your preferred ranged weapon. But otherwise you'll have two situational responses: Step in and aim for them while they're still on the ground, or step back and hit them either in the air or as they land. Neither is a good option for an inexperienced berserker, as even skilled ones will have trouble consistently murdering Crawlers.

Stalkers: You'll see or hear them long before they get to you. And cutting them down once they're spotted is a clot level difficulty.

Husks: Once you learn their firing patterns, you'll be able to dodge their shots and then step in for a kill. If you can't finish him with the first strike then you should step back to avoid their melee counterattack. You'll see them cock their arm for a swing at you well in time to avoid it. So keep your eyes open for that.

Sirens: You have three basic options: Step around a corner and wait for it to approach, the AOE attack won't hit you from behind the wall. Once they're in range you step back around and cut their head off.
Shoot the siren with your ranged attack.
Or, for the adventurous heart with a medic in sight, you bumrush the Siren and kill her before you can scream. It sounds suicidal, but the Sirens AOE attack isn't just one wave of sound. Even if she begins to scream, you can kill her before the rest of the attack finishes, reducing your damage taken.

Scrakes: These are what your team will look to you for. You have a consistent and simple way to demolish scrakes, you just need to hit them in the head over and over. Doing so will stun them and prevent their enrage attack. So hit hit hit and you'll see it fall.
Do note that your teammates shooting the Scrake can trigger the enrage, which will cause it to hit you. This can get you killed so warn newbie teammates about it.

Flesh Pounds: Unfortunately you're kind of useless in a normal situation. The Flesh pound will be enraged by your teammates, and even with your reduced damage taken you do not want to be in melee range of an Enraged Flesh Pound.

However! You do have an option. If you're alone, careful, quick and smart. You can chip away at the Flesh pound piece by piece. You must let him swing, as if he doesn't get to attack for too long he'll enrage. But his attacks have a windup, in which you can dodge back out.
So you dodge in, dodge out, in and out until he falls.

At least, that's the plan.

Patriarch: Fuck I dunno. Get a chainsaw, shoot him a bit. You're not exactly in your shining moment when this fucker shows up so just do your best to help out.

The expanded Sharpshooter guide.

Purpose
The sharpshooter deals heavy damage via headshots, so depending on what you are facing, what you are armed with, and what wave you are on you will vary between an assault, to a priority target killer.

For this you will have a reduced cost for high damage precision weapons, reduced recoil and reload time for those weapons and significantly increased damage from headshots.

Weapons
You can split your weapons into two categories, your pistol and your primary.

Pistols, all pistols can be dual wielded which can be useful during panic moments but until you get a gauge where the two guns go you may lose accuracy. You will almost always graduate from the 9mm to the handcannon so that your sidearm maintains usefulness all the way up the enemy teirs, but the 9mm will remain your friend if all else fails.

9mm Tactical: Everyone starts with one of these. It is a low damage, reasonable accuracy small pistol with a flashlight. For the early waves you can live on just this. With a well placed headshot or two you can ruin the lives of Gorefasts and below as far as health goes, but anything above it is a risk you'll have to decide on.

Handcannon: Much like the 9mm, only with no flashlight, slightly reduced accuracy, and largely increased damage. A well placed headshot or two from this can stop all the way up to a Siren as far as health goes. The clip is shorter though so be careful about how you are using the bullets, its power inspires panic and panic can get you killed.

Primary, between the lever action, the crossbow, and the M14 EBR your primary weapons are about removing the more dangerous specimens. Some even go so far as to pair a lever action and the M14 so that you can own long range and damage. They have superior headshot damage in comparison to the pistol and each has a notable advantage.

Lever action rifle: High damage, great headshot delivery, highly accurate, with bad reload time and of course the lever action between each shot. This gun lives at range, the closer your enemies get the more its reload time and lever action starts making you feel claustrophobic. Its damage is substantial, so when you score a headshot your enemy will feel it, even more than with the M14. And it is one hell of cheap at 200 english pounds. Some sharpshooters live their whole game by it and offset its weaknesses by pairing it with the M14. Worth practicing with.

Crossbow: Like all primaries of the Sharpshooter high damage, great headshot delivery, high accuracy, this one also has bad reload but makes up for it by giving you a scope. The best sights the game is ever going to give you. With it you can reliably kill just about anything short of a fleshpound in one well placed bolt. Even better that bolt typically penetrates through and kills whatever is behind them. The bad reload time and one shot clip means you really should not be using it at close range though. If you can fight the panic you can even end a fleshpound with about two headshots and is my choice weapon when the patriarch shows up if I don't get any pipe bombs. The ammunition is rather expensive though, so be sure you can afford both it and some extra bolts prior to getting it.

M14 EBR: All the normal advantages, plus a great reload time, plus a laser that essentially serves as a crosshair. First off, don't use the sights, compared to the laser they will not help you. Second compared to the other two primary weapons it has slightly reduced damage, but an increased rate of fire and that damn laser means that it more than makes up for it with long to short capability. A truly grand gun for most things short of a fleshpound.

Tactics
First and most important rule of a sharpshooter. Don't panic.

Panic can ruin your whole day, you don't aim properly, you waste your shots, you don't switch to the right weapon and you will almost certainly die. You live on headshots, so it is important to try to get them. If your team doesn't yet have a berserker you are supporting fire that can ruin the health of any specimen and outright murder most things Gorefast and down without an issue. But only if you don't panic.

Second, realize who you are playing with and adjust your loadout accordingly. You have two main styles, mobile and stationary. A mobile sharshooter will want his handcannon, his M14, and his wits. Karesh and Ramary are very mobile players and never hold a location when they can run and gun, so when I play with them I play like that.

Stationary is better with a handcannon and a crossbow, or a M14 and a lever action. If you know you have a firebug, demo, or really anyone who can keep the little guys off you, you can concentrate on killing the bigger threats.

If you are mobile concentrate on what is in front of you. You won't have quite the time to line up headshots but you should have an idea of where you are aiming. This is where the M14 really shines as you will be able to pull your headshots much faster on the move than with any other weapon. Do NOT back up and shoot. If you have to retreat then throw a grenade and turn around, nothing good has ever come from backing up in a wave based shooter.

Learn the secondary weapon fire button so you can unleash the laser for the M14, and assign a reliable key to switch to your last weapon because the ability to do that quickly has saved my life more than once.

Clots: Clots are so useless that you can usually pull out your 9 and run inches away from a group of them and just cap them as they line up to join the headshot club. If you don't lose your head and don't backup and fire they go down like bowling pins.

Bloats: They are slow, landing a headshot on one should be child's play. And it is in your best interest to do so since it sets them up for death quite quickly. Blowing them in a group is also fun since you cover their friends in Bloat acid.

Gorefast: A frequent inciter of PANIC, when you see one charging just keep calm and aim for its face. You'll stun them, and kill them in short order and they won't even touch you.

Crawlers: Pull out your pistol and shoot. These things are quick and nasty and nobody likes them. If you see them first just get rid of them. Don't concentrate on a headshot, they don't have the health to demand that kind of treatment and they have the speed to punish you for trying.

Stalkers: I have never seen anyone killed by a Stalker. Just shoot it.

Siren: Now we start entering your territory. A siren is a bastard if it gets in close and can really shake your nerves since as she starts closing her screams begin to affect your aim. Try to keep cool and take her out quickly. If you see her from a distance then aim for the head and end her before she can even let out that first scream. Almost all your guns will take care of her if you land her ugly face.

Husk: You know what the space button does? It makes you jump. It is important to realize this just prior to your standoff against a Husk. Dodge his fire, and while he charges his next one blast him. If you hit him in the head he'll be stunned and then you can finish him. And if he gets too close that penchant for getting stunned will work wonders as you unload your handcannon at his face.

Scrake: Like the Gorefast the Scrake can inspire panic, only in this case he has the health to justify that action. Do not try to take him out with anything less than a primary, and keep your shots on his head. A crossbow can reliably stun or kill him in one shot. Anything else is about keeping your shots to him, and moreover trying to keep your distance.

Fleshpound: If you don't have a Demo, it is going to be your job to take him out. He has head resistance so he is going to take more of your bullets or bolts than anyone else, two crossbow bolts or a full clip of either rifle to his head. When you land that first headshot it is almost certain that he will rage on you, he stands still for a few moments prior, try to use this time to deliver as many more headshots as you feel comfortable, then switch to the handcannon and try to strafe him while maintaining fire on his tiny head. If you can keep that aim he'll go down.

Patriarch: If you haven't contributed to the pipe bomb village that everyone is helping to build then you can grab a crossbow. Make your weapon switch on the knife and learn to run. The key for you is see him, aim for the head, shoot the head, don't get hit. That last part is the most difficult part since every time I blast his face he likes to cloak, find me, and rape me with his tentacle. Regardless these single shots will ruin his day and I have killed a Patriarch, last man standing, using this tactic.
