Now, now... religion is a Fragile topic, But i thought this one has a very nice Historical hook to it. And it relates to Pope Benedict as pretty much all the PR he has been doing to get the Vatican in more Popular terms with the Global audience that watches it's every move. Now, some may say it's all marketing, others may claim that it's a honest hearfelt reach on the Church towards are more open minded releationship with the world... whichever your view may be, there is something to be said about finding common ground between Ideology and Historical facts, and it does cause some ripples in the water... So, thoguhts about it?! |

That's all cool and great but Pope John Paul II laid groundwork for a lot of modernization and changes to the church regarding families and discrimination/acceptance and Benedict showed and and got all "No but seriously, forget that, we're Catholicism". So I'll believe this has any real and lasting impact once the next two or three popes don't do anything about it.

But on topic, as the article states Catholic position hasn't blamed the jews for a long time, and I don't see this changing much. Racists are still going to be racists, if they were getting their jurisdiction from the top of catholic heirachy they wouldn't be pursuing this anti-semitism. That's if they even hear about this papal decree/simply declare the pope as corrupted by world jewry. More importantly the religious "justification" for racism is pretty much always a veneer for other deeper causes. Unless you are a woman, gay or live in Africa. I don't get the John Paul was a good guy arguments. He was vehemently against birth control, even in aids riddled africa, abortion, womens liberation- or even really leaving the home- and homosexuality. Like he appointed some more liberal bishops and things but he still took a lot of extremely damaging and hateful positions. He just had good publicists really. Just to be totally clear, this only applies to jews? It'd just ruin my day if I weren't still religiously justified in hating black people.

Nobody said JPII was a good guy, my point in that statement was that he did a lot of things that could have helped bring the church closer to reality (such as it is) and then the next guy got all "no just kidding".

Mormons believe all Native Americans are Kratos, not sure if that's a racist insult or a Racist compliment, though.
