So, I just started playing Arc Rise Fantasia.
I don't know how far I'm going to get, because this voice acting is honestly painful to listen to. It hurts me. AAAAAAAAUGH I mean, I'm only like fifteen minutes in, and despite looking really nice for a Wii game and the combat at least being passible, I fucking hate it. SO AWFUL

They're stressing all the wrong words. They may in fact be robots.

Please don't buy this game. You'll only be supporting subpar localisations.

At least it's not as bad as that one that was done by a single family.

Arc Rise Fantasia is an AWESOME game, that sure as hell deserves a chance.
BUT... English voice acting for this game sucks big time. So, 24 hours after release there was an Undub version online. That works with the original disk. There is some Homebrew vodoo that i'm not too sure of how it works... but it does. I'm using a Hard copy undub as in, ripped the original Game myself, replaced the Audio Files with the Japanese version and made a Backup of the original disc to play. Now i'm enjoying this game with the Wonderfully delicious Japanese voice track. The cost? No audio during Skits. The benefit? No English Voice track ANYWHERE. Alternative? Turn off Voice audio and pretend you're playing Twilight Princess in 2008. |

Man, you guys. I actually didn't mind the VAs, but only because the voices themselves aren't godawful, just the delivery of the lines.
That said, prolly gonna look into this game. Is that a fucking robot thingy they're talking to in the link Noncon linked? |

That's a Dragon =3 Well, if your first contact with this game is with the English version you might be able to endure the VA. But once you compare it with the japanese one... you aint coming back. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQYJVsTpB-Q http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Btt2a2YA4is |

Is there any game when compared to Japanese VA is ever better in the end?
That being said, if I can force my way through Infinite Undiscovery VA I'm sure I can force my way through this. The game does look fun, What's the Combat actually like though?

The combat is actually the the best part of the experience to me.
It's full throwback to old style Turn Based combat. But there is just enough strategy to keep things fun. And there is grind... BUT the game gives you a nice Auto AI setting. So usually when i'm griding i just Auto-Battle, and on rough battles i take in and control my guys. It's actually pretty fun. And there are several overlapping features. For example. you have magic. Which is in general, not very powerfull. But on Elemental enemies and bosses, exploring Elemental weakness is a must. Also, Healing is hard to pull of so you can't just spring back to full power from 1 hp. That makes you have to plan a bit, because it can get real hard to turn the tables on an enemy. Also there are elemental crystals on the field, which are like magic totem that do nothing but power up or down an element. Can be VERY annoying OR necessary. There is summons, which is basically there to eat a piece onf the Boss HP ... There is also Skills, which are basically super attacks your guys do and buffs that cost SP that you get during battles. There is also Arm Forces, which are special bonuses and skills you get from your weapons and special arm forces you equip on those weapons. There are also combos and trinity acts, which sometimes you have to pull to subdue some harder enemies (like when you get a 6000 hp boss that attacks 2 per turn causing 300dmg and your team is made of 4 people that cause 100dmg per turn and have 600hp each... ) and to wrap it up, there is the AP pool, which is the main system. Everything costs AP (even using items) and yoru characters share that AP. So, sometimes you find yourself having to choose between carving a powerful blow to the opponent or using that extra AP to use a Mid level potion instead of a Low Level one. All and all, it's fun and engaging. But i have the feeling the USA version is a tad easier than the Japanese one... i think it's just impression, but who knows... it's been done before (and i remeber getting my ass royally kicked on the Japanese version) |
