Default Miomir Reference Thread

This thread will have reference information and maps for the Miomir RP. Reference from the sign-up thread will be reposted. Also, I'll throw up here a detail of all the races, more history of the world, and a little tourist guide for all your future Miomir vacation plans (i.e. region, climate, locale, nationalities, etc.). It would be greatly appreciated if no one posted to this thread, so as to keep the information easier to access.

Regions and Cities

This is the current description of the regions of Miomir. It will be updated as time goes by. If you are in an RP, don't be afraid to create a town name in one of these regions.

Brinidoth- There are two continents on Miomir seperated by three bodies of water: in order from south to north they are the Samili Straight, the Sisin Sea, and the Addrar Channel. To the east of these bodies, there is the continent of Brinidoth. On Brinidoth there are the Rhunyc Desert to the northeast, Lenosia in the center, and the Haunted Marshlands to the south. The West Yric River in the south flows from the Sisin Sea to the Samisil Lake. From the lake, the East Yric River flows east and the Tanyc River, the largest river in Brinidoth, flows north. In Lenosia, the Tiran branches out to the Gulf of D'rathgur to the east. When the Tanyc reaches the mountain range that lines the edge of the Rhunyc Desert, it splits into the Molir and Volir, which flow into the mountains for a short distance, and the Lower Tanyc, which bends to the northwest. The East Yric River in the south branches into six rivers: from north to south, the Moili, Dalir, Hali, Musil, Volir, and the Nulir. The latter is the only one to reach the ocean.

Rhunyc Desert- This massive desert occupies a third of Brinidoth. It is in the shape of a giant peninsula. Major cities in the desert are Voc, Sudri, and Gunri near the mountain range; Vaec and Dynnyn near the center; Tobor on the eastern shore, and Lelin on the north shore.

Lenosia- Lenosia is the large, fertile majority of Brinidoth. In the area surrounded by the desert mountains to the north, the Gulf of D'rathgur to the east, the Tanyc to the west, and the Tiran to the south, there is a massive grassland. Wood there is terribly hard to come by, as one must cross the mighty Tanyc or get lumber from the hostile Haunted Woods to the south. Within the plains are the cities of Requiem, Mataisin, and Kran'ahkan. Kran'ahkan is one of the largest cities in all of Miomir and lies where the Tiran River meets the ocean. Key features here are the massive Stone Circle Market and the Games, gladiatorial style events held every cycle. Mataisin is also on the Tiran. It is a small merchant city. Requiem is the home of the Seraphims. In the north of Lenosia there are heavily dense woods with few large communities. The only town of interest there is Myrellia, a key trading post for travelers into the desert.

The Haunted Marshlands - This area in the south, as its name implies, does not house a large number of living or civlized inhabitants. This is a nest for the undead and several forms of grotesque monsters. There are many legends surrounding the area which draw a few brave and suicidal adventurers to their dooms.

Dilata Isle- This is a large land mass to the eastern side of the Gulf of D'rathgur. Few civilizations exist on this wind-battered land, the most notable being the K'shii, who call Dilata Isle "K'shiino," which means "Isle of Harsh Wind."

Makonia- This is the continent to the west of the separating waters. It is somewhat larger than Brinidoth and just as diverse. In the center of the continent and sloping northward is an enormous mountain range, the Froth Mountains. Several races find their homes there, such as most dwarves of Miomir. South of the Froth Mountains is a large rainy plain called Brithrol. Below Brithrol is the Redd Sea, which is fed by the Mamli River that flows from the Sisin Sea to the east. The Mamli, a large and angry river, has three other branches, two to the south and one to the north. The Lemli runs north, forming Lake Ronn and the Simli and Lirmli Rivers that die in the Froth Mountains. The Bemli and Gomli run south through the region of Mittairedd, though only the former reaches the ocean. The Bemli River also has a lake forming halfway from the Mamli to the ocean, Lake Gurr. North of the Froth Mountains lie two very dangerous regions, the Barren Lands and Ragnar. Through the Barren Lands run several jagged rivers, appearing on maps like either veins or lightning bolts.

Mittairedd- This area is one of the most placid in Miomir. Humans and elves have their kingdoms here, infrequently making small wars for territory or blood feuds. Countless lords call themselves kings and hire knights, priests, and farmers to defend these claims. This is a land of ancient tradition and chivalry. It was once a unified empire, but the only remnants of this former kingdom lie now in the High Council of the city of Oken at the mouth of the Gomli River. The city is in the center of Mittairedd, is surrounded by six mountains, and was once the capital city of the Mittairedd Empire. The High Council consists of Elves, Humans, Dwarves, Dryads, and even some Angels, to name a few. Here, problems concerning all of Mittairedd are discussed and resolved.

Vanvan- This city, on a narrow island near the southwest corner of Mittairedd, is connected to the mainland by a bridge. Its inhabitants, religious fanatics, all worship the god, Nén. Everyone's name in Vanvan ends in the letters "v-a-n." Kings and priests, the most important people in the city, all have rhyming names (e.g. Stanvan). Preists must also always speak in rhyming couplets ("The path to truth lies only through Nèn/ Whether for children, women, or men./ Give up temptation for the outside/ For leaving Vanvan is suicide."), though high priests will sometimes use limericks as a sign of their superior enlightenment in the ways of Nèn. Few travelers visit Vanvan, as there is little to be gained, learned, or done there. Additionally, it gets really annoying.

Brithrol- If one has qualms with rain or water, this is not the land for him or her. Brithrol is comparable to a rainforest in the amount of rain it receives. However, there is les warmth here than in tropical settings. Thus, the abundance of plant life seen in such a place is not repeated in Brithrol. There are several small villages here, the inhabitants considered fringe pioneers by the Mittairedd folk. In truth, the villages of Brithrol have been withstanding the storms and rain for much longer than dynasties have squabbled in Mittairedd. Some large villages of import are Segan, a merchant community, and Camren, a village in the center of dark woods inhabited by a clan of humans known for their expertise in crossbow craftsmanship. Few venture here, as the reward is often an arrow placed most uncomfortably through one's throat.

Barren Lands- Miomir was in a terribly poor humor when it formed the Barrens. The earth there is black and ashen, as if scorched millennia ago. There is no farmland. The water is poison and must be purified by magic for most races to drink. The few civilized (if they can be called that) inhabitants are survivors and usually nomads. The cities of Rarr in the north, Nocturne in the center, and Onus to the south are the only centers of civilization that have yet to be taken by famine, dust storms, gargoyles, manticores, or tribes of ogres. Nocturne houses the Dark Angels. Rarr is a city of warriors, made strong by generations of warring. The immense pride held by Rarr's people for their country is one element that allows them to survive without desertion or defeat. The rivers here are enormous and house vipers, crocodiles, and poisonous fish.

Ragnar- This area rivals the Barren Lands in lack of hospitality. It is surrounded by an immense ring of volcanic mountains. The interior of Ragnar is dotted with craters, chasms, and other geographical scars. There are no cities here, only ruins, such as the massive but empty Ruins of Mithrur, and nomads. Red dragons and other violent races run rampant, making war constantly simply for the sake of war. There is another war every day, sometimes more than one before Karo sets. Most inhabitants here profit from the constant bloodshed from the safety of the four passes through the mountains, Munor to the north, Sunar to the northeast, Segnar to the southeast, and Glegnar to the west.

Haven- This city, to the northeast of Ragnar, is home to the Light Angels. The surrounding area is the only patch of green on the west side of the Addrar Channel.

Default cycles, moons, and magnetic poles

Miomir has some strange cycles. IF any of this is confusing, feel absolutely free to ask Ll!H or I about it (he came up with the cycles, and it even took me a few times reading it to understand), and we'll be happy to try and explain things better to ya. This will also be added on to as we create more information.

Cycles: There are 13 months in one Miomirian year, divided into 7 different cycles. Each cycle has a particular task or trade that takes precedence over others, mainly due to the weather.

Moons: Miomir has three moons, all varying in size. The largest, Yreorrant, is blue, and is commonly called "the night moon", which is more often than not the only time it can be seen (one of the rare exceptions to this is on the final day of the Games, where it can be seen at sunset). The middle moon, Karo, is the yellow day moon, which, as one could guess, can only be seen during the day. The final and smallest moon is the red Seor. This is a fast little moon that orbits Miomir by the hour, and so it used to clock the hours on Miomir.

Magnetic Poles: The sun rises in the North, so the orbit around Miomir's sun is vertical, not horizontal, as is Earth's. Therefore, the magnetic poles are in the East and the West, where the coldest points are. The continent of Brinidoth has the Equator running through it, more toward the Eastern side.

I request that a map is made, and inside of the map, there are little summaries of the countries inside of them.

Reason, I don't want to read all that.

I second IHMN's opinion.

That, and am I the only one that finds the eye things just slightly creepy? I'd take a hand or an ear or something.

Firstly, IHMN, there is a map. It's really big, though, so we need to take it to Staples and scan it there, which costs money, which we're currently lacking. And time, which Ll!H is currently lacking--he's probably halfway across the state by now, since he's visiting a college with his other half, and he's got the map. Secondly, the map is just that--a map. A lot has yet to be named (which is why you guys can create names if you so choose), because it's still in its creative stages. There are no descriptions in the map. Besides, there isn't all that much to read. You're just out of luck if you're too lazy to read it all. It's only five minutes of your time, and if you can't spare that much to read a little reference post, then I really don't see how you can read RP posts, since some of them can get pretty long.

Thirdly, SS, yeah, the eye thing was really creepy... I had to write it o.o;;; But, hey... that's why only the least squeamish are assassins, I suppose. *shrug*

Default technical difficulties..

Okay... this machine that I access the internet from (my laptop doesn't have the internet) is really dumb. I scanned a smaller map to hold all you guys over until we got the bigger one scanned. Well... the CD that the little map is on isn't being read correctly by this stupid machine. But, we have the bigger map scanned. Unfortunately, it's too big, and I can't resize it on either of these computers. I'll see if I can't hop on over to Vex's house and resize it there, since his computer is a lot smarter than mine. Sorry for the delay and inconvenience. -.-;;;
