That was my second choice for him. I just picked The Fool instead because I felt like it's negatives were more fitting of Renny than Sun's.

Well, the Sun and Star cards are both almost exclusively positive when you look it in Wikipedia. The fool on the other hand is basically this character who is living life almost serenely but BLINDLY, as if unaware that he is on the edge of a cliff and one wrong action may push him off the edge.

The thing about Tarot cards is... The Fool is basically the "Protagonist" card on a journey and the other cards are supposed to be used in conjunction with him to find out what he turns out to be like. The fool is the Joker. The Blank Card. The Canvas and the blank slate. His development is shaped and defined by the cards/fate that he is paired with. It's partly why one of the other names for Tarot cards is "The Fool's Journey". He is the lowest card who has the chance to become the highest card.

So, I guess Renny might be the Fool combined with Star and Sun

Hehe, I did quite a bit of reading on these things way back when I was helping Teal Mage with one of his ideas for an RP centered on the Major Arcana cards.

This site here is probably the best one to find meanings on the respective cards. Both postitive and negative meaning.

Keep in mind that the negative meanings of the tarot cards usually represent what happens when the agent resembling that card is corrupted or negatively altered.

For the sake of this I treated each card as an entity in itself so a person that embodied all of the traits and then compared it to the characters to see which one fit best from my perspective. Otherwise there'd be a bunch of "This with this this and this mixed in"

Ah. Then I still insist that Renny is a Star type. He already has a developed philosophy of sort and not really on a journey for "experience" and he's not exactly entirely unaware of his circumstances. He's already fighting for specific causes and all that.

Star Meaning:

Upright - Fresh hope and renewal. Healing of old wounds. Hope. renewal of faith and hope. Spiritual love. A mental and physical broadening of horizons. Promise and fulfillment. inspiration. Influence over others. Vigour and confidence. Protection.

Ill Dignified or Reversed - Self doubt. Stubbornness. Unwillingness or inability to adapt to changing circumstances and accept the opportunities it may bring. Lack of trust and self-doubt. Obstacles to happiness. Diminished life. Inability to freely express oneself. Rigidity of mind.

I think that works. Renny mainly has the Upright qualities but practically every time he has some sort of trouble happened to him, he retreats to the negative qualities seen above. The fool's negative sides has more of the reckless gambler traits which does not fit Renny.

I do agree with your other choices and I especially agree that Charlotte is hard to place especially due to her nature which does not even pretend to seek anything resembling any beneficial motive or ambition which the tarot cards kinda assume.

None were really easy except for Matt since I actually know him and even he borrows from a couple other ones. Was torn between a couple on pretty much every one of them.

Quite understandable. I guess it might also depend on what your sources are for finding the card meanings. Wikipedia has a fairly different viewpoint on the cards that is pretty onesided compared to the website I linked above.

@Drac: Just letting you know that I can't post, Gem made yet another placeholder, and Dante passed on posting. So the only ones you really have to wait for if you feel like waiting is Bard.

^^ And on a total side-note, I spent a bit of last night re-reading our old discussion threads. Quite a few things I forgot about! Omakes, arguments, various conversations and oneupmanship. I even saw AB promise Autoboosters for Slayers which I could have sworn I never remember reading about before and yet I read it there! Hehe, it's like what is old is new again.

Hey Dante. I just had a thought about Charlotte.

The Tower is probably the a good idea example for Charlotte if we're looking at its unaltered state.

However, I personally feel that Charlotte is unashamingly embracing the negative side of the Chariot. As follows:

Ill Dignified or Reversed - A disregard for others, envy, avarice. Loss of control and chaos in one's personal life possibly due to personal flaws. Imbalance. Destruction. A warning against overwhelming ambition and high expectations. The continuation of outdated ideas and traditions.

Or rather, if you want to be more unique... she more embraces the reverse nature of the Devil card

Upright - Money matters. Feeling the burden of the material side of life. Desire for physical and material things. Feeling of frustration and oppression. A tendency to collect and hoard money and material objects. Lust. Sexual obsession. The querent's knowledge of his or her own needs, wants and desires. Security versus creative or spiritual fulfillment.

Ill Dignified or Reversed - More severe forms of the above. Abuse of authority. Material success is the focus to the exclusion of all other things. Uncontrolled ambition. Greed. Bondage to a person or situation or thing. Emotional blackmail. True evil.
