Trust me; we want to start with cartilage. We still don't know if we're going to have to do any squishing and squeezing to get out of this cave-thing. If we grow bones too soon, we may get trapped in here....at least until we evolve burrowing claw or acid spit.

Also, we want to keep it simple as we still want fast regenerative capabilities.

Which leads to the question: What if we evolve a more advanced reproductive ability to create independent offspring that will behave more like children than mindless minions?
