Check out Dawn of War (and all the subsequant expansions). Based in the Warhammer 40k universe, I'd say it's classified as fantasy.
If you'd like something a little more medieval, I'd suggest The Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II. With the recent patches it's become a solid RTS with good balance. It does require quite a bit of video power though, so only really consider it if you've got a video card that has pixel shader 1.4 or higher. 1.3 and lower aren't compatible (E.G. the GeForce 4800SE (OCed 4600TI) is the cutoff card. The Radeon 9000 is the cutoff card for ATI I think). |

Actually, I didnt mind the 40K PC games. I still prefer to play the tabletop, but I dont want to invest in a $100 set of Necron. Are the Heroes of Might and Magic games any good (I know they are tunr based, but I like that) as well as Armies of Exigo? I have heard both good and bad about both.

Heroes 5 is good, in as much that I've played it, not much.
Heroes 3 is around in some places, if you're lucky. It's very nice. Heroes 4 is better skipped if you can find 3 or 5.

I'll back up the Starcraft: BroodWar and Battle for Middle Earth: II posts. Both are great buys, and the former is only like $10 total.

Heroes 3 is probably the best in the series, as far as I've heard & played. Heroes 4 is sort of meh, I enjoyed it, but it just doesn't compare to the feeling of H3. Heroes 5... never played it. By the way, if you wanna go real old school, you can find the first games available for download (& they're freeware).
Starcraft can be adicting, but it's a very good game. I like the short, violent, tense fights in the game, compared to the epic fights in the Warcraft universe. Damn. Now I feel like playing both Starcraft & Warhammer.

Um, Age of ________ whatever you like is pretty okay. I played age of Myth, and Age of Empires 3. Both are alright, but they require you to do a lot of micro manageing on the stuff harvesting. At least, at the start.
They're very involved games, because to make units you need wood, gold, oil, meat, rubber, fur, iron, strawberry jam, worship power, legos, animal horns, and hamsters. All of these must be collected, and the nodes tend to last not very long at all. |
