expensive whiskey is smoother, but warms you less.
Cheap whiskey makes you want to kill yourself and feel like your insides are on fire. both are delicious ![]()

I come from a small town with mom and pop stores. No one bullshits anyone else. We tolerate each other, but no one bull shits each other.

To answer the question. "Smokey" is just what people have been saying, and just how it sounds, it makes you taste the kinda smell you get from a camp fire. But with the taste of Whiskey being so strong it's actually just kind of an accent to it. Sort of like an aftertaste, at least that I've noticed.
*if you really want to taste smokey flavor try Lapsang souchong tea, that stuff would make a good run for a steak* Peaty is hard to describe, but I think the best thing I can say is that Scotch tends to be a peaty drink. I don't really know how else to describe it, ask the people at the distributors if they could help you out a little more, or if they have whiskey tastings that you could be a part of. |

I don't care to enter into a discussion on the nuances of the words used to describe whiskeys, but I definitely have poured myself a glass in honor of this thread.

That's a silly question to ask SMB
Man, if you're complaining how store describes a whiskey taste, pray to god you never have to listen to wine tasters describe the taste of wine. Jesus H Meister do they have weird ways to describe tastes.

Pretty sure peaty is another way of saying an earthy taste. Think mushrooms. Or go dig a hole in your backyard. Deep enough to stand in. Stand in it. Sniff. That's a peaty smell. Now tranfer that to taste. Basically it's really really dry and kinda bitter.
Or maybe peaty is entriely different from earthy. Wasn't aware Meister had gone and achieved apotheosis. Or is this just some weird cult thing?
