Why does it feel like I'm reading about an issue from Nationstates? Oh yeah, because there's someone assuming his comically outlandish opinion is absolute fact and true for everyone. As far as sensory input can be ranked for their importance in sex, I'd put it touch, taste, smell, sound, sight. Heck, maybe even some unofficial senses like balance before sight.

Sight and sound do most of the work in preparation, touch does a lot of heavy work for the physical deed, and the whole process is sex, so they're pretty much ranked up on the same level as far as that goes.

If I have a stuffy nose and can't smell or taste anything, it doesn't ruin sex for me. Hearing and sight gone? Yeah, that's a real killer. I have to wear my glasses because having sex with a blurry peach form isn't exactly my idea of awesome.

To be fair human pheromones are a bit contested.

But smell is pretty heavily connected to various parts of our brain, including memory and emotion, and smelling good can make you more attractive to members of the opposite sex, whether because your scent reminds them of an ex who was rather great, or because it just makes them feel safe. It can also have the opposite effect, of course (like wearing axe around any girls who have dated one of those douchebags that wear axe).

I can see where someone would rate smell highly, even if I wouldn't.

I can see where someone would rate smell highly, even if I wouldn't.

There was actually a study done and they found a correlation between the smell of a guys sweat and his attractiveness. If I remember right it was linked back to how certain genes can be expressed as slightly different chemical signatures in the sweat. This causes slightly different bacteria to grow that live off the sweat and causes their waste, which is apparently responsible for BO, to smell slightly different. Women can apparently pick up on and differentiate between these different odors and are programed to dislike the smell of a man that is too genetically similar. Apparently the genes that control this are associated with immunity so mating with someone with a very different smell is good for the immune system of the offspring.

Of course the program that I saw that was talking about a study also talked about a study that verified that women really are attracted to money. The moral of the story is sexual attraction makes rocket science look like algebra.
