Awesomenauts seems to be pretty good. But there's a reason I hate the PSN and XBLA networks. Games go on there and you will never hear about them. Ever.
While I could rant how Scott Pilgrim would have been the perfect PSP game, I won't. I'll just say that there's some great games on the network and move one. Anyway, Awesomenauts: Think TF2 Gang Garrison. Now dress it up in futuristic archetypes and you have this game. Link So far, there's only been the sheriff released, but it's pretty interesting to see what he can do as the cowboy. Mainly, he seems to be the one to get close with, do a lot of damage, and is just playing as an axe crazy gunman. Graphics look pretty good, gameplay is solid. Nothing else to think on this for now until they release more info. |

I think Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet hit XBLA today. It's really good. Very Super Metroid-esque. Get it.

Sadly, I have neither network. I have a PSP and a PC. So those games are dead to me. Doesn't mean I won't recommend them to others though.

Damn you Steam! You and your special deals on a reverse tower defense game like Anomaly: Warzone Earth! I've been clamoring to get this game for a while and totally forgot about it since the Ars review.
Yes, it's a turret defense game. But rather than build turrets and destroy things through proxy, this game allows you to destroy the turrets blocking your way. As the commander, you can choose the shorter but more difficult route, or the longer, but less defended route. And you're with your "troops", fighting the turrets that can take you out. Graphics are good and the gameplay is intriguing to say the least. It's the same as Sanctum except it's more 2D than 3D. |

Even though I haven't been able to play it yet, because of the suckiness of my pc, I would like to once more bring Achron to everyones attention, an RTS (or MTS, a meta-time strategy as the developers call it) in which you can control time.
And I don't mean in a simple gimmicky "you can slow down, stop and fast forward" time way either (though you can do that as well), but in the actual sense of "you can go back and correct past actions, change orders, cancel builds, set things to build sooner, call off failed attacks, send units back in time to help themselves and create self resolving grandfather paradoxes." Basically the game records everything that takes place over a 7 minute window and you can go back and change things at any point in that window. A mechanism called timewaves help to propogate these changes into the future, allowing changes to gradually occur over periods of time. Oh, and all of this can be done in multiplayer too. As you can imagine, it's incredibly complex, but luckily the community has been asking all kinds of questions and the developers seem to have viable anwers for everything. Players have also come up with all kinds of crazy time bending tactics and terms for when stuff happens too, which only makes it more confusing and awesome. Oh and there are 3 different races which all play suitably differently from each other, from the balanced humans to the fast moving masters of time the Grekim who's units have 3 genders and breed to create more, and the slower moving masters of teleportation the Vecgir who's buildings all build each other and come with auto defenses and whose base units upgrade to pilot higher level units. The game's had some extended testing phases but it's nearly done now, the graphics have been massively improved and the gameplay is really different and intriguing. I just wish I had a computer that could run it.
