When BB came to town, no less than 4 of my local much-loved video and game rental stores closed up shop because they couldn't compete. I had friends there, relationships even though I was just a kid. They always held the NES games I wanted to rent aside and saved them for me. So I'm having trouble feeling sympathy for a failed company that gained its market share by ruthlessly driving competitors out of business. But later when the new era of tech arrived, BB disregarded it, failed to innovate, and lost. Driven out of business...but rather than it being ruthless, it was simply due to ignorance.

Suck it, Blockbuster. Suck it long and suck it hard.

If a Blockbuster can run your video/game store out of business, you must have had severe flaws in your operation anyway.

I do have to say, I wish that there was some cheap brick and mortar place to browse random old games, and rent them on a whim. Yeah, there are Red Boxes, but those generally only have a very limited selection of new releases.

Thank you for letting me be better, NPF.

Mostly because in scenarios like that its killed by something even larger. If not even Blockbuster could survive than pretty much any brick and mortar store will fail.

Again not sure if you have them there but Family Video is kind of like that just more for movies. Most of their selection is older movies you can rent for like a buck.

Yeah I know, but those places had character and I'd pay more for that. Blockbuster was always so damn company.

I too miss browsing for random stuff. Rai and I did that at the Hollywood Video up here...never would have encountered the variety of weird and awesome anime as we did. Paprika, Karas, some weird one where magic made demons burst out of your body so everyone had to wear super strong armor to keep their bodies intact...never would have found those otherwise. I miss the opportunity.

I can't remember the name!!! They would cast spells...then say "EXIST" and then shit would go sideways. Some of them were in charge of hunting down the magic demon people.
