Comic # 8 - Pillaging and Looting is now online, Enjoy

www.brainslug.com

Meister: The bunny from Monty Python is actually one of Dante's Heroes, If there ever is a need for a strip which include Dante's room or cage, expect to see a poster of the Monty Python rabbit on the wall. Him and probably Freddy Kruger..

Toffeecake: The story for my comic is actually something that's been in my mind since about 1999. I've been kind of developping the idea for a long time. I work in animation and originally intended to make the idea into a cartoon. Since that wasn't feasable, I decided that a web comic would be the best way to get my ideas out there... i then converted my site if emphasize the new comics and started making them.

Damn, this is some very high quality stuff. Like as had been said before, the art style is fresh and unique (I'm getting tired of seeing GENERIC MANGA STYLE whenever I look at new comics nowadays), and very good to boot. Also, I too was reminded of Calvin and Hobbes, but at the same time you manage to keep your work apart from it, so you don't look like some kind of cheap copy. Very high quality. It instantly went into my bookmarks folder, and I anticipate the future editions!

I'm just rehashing what everyone else has already said, but I thought I'd voice my opinion anyhow.

Upon clicking the link, my first thought was "Wow, what a snazzy layout". Most webcomic sites look like total crap, hell, most sites in general do. You've done a great job on the appearance and functionality.

The art in the comic is great, a very clearly defined style to it, looks completely professional, there was nothing amateur about it. The writing is good as well, my favorite bit was about naming deadman's creek.

Looking forward to updates.

So Brain, do you ever look to anything for inspiration, or are you cautious about other artwork? Personally, whenever I delve into anyone else's comic too often, my style starts to adapt, if ever so slightly. Do you ever have this problem?

Wow, I love this. Your comic could be the next big thing. You need to spread the word more. I started reading more webcomics because of guest comics at NP and because of good forum links like this one. Keep it up.

Tha'ts a tough one. When I'm looking for inspiration, what works best for me is looking at the real world and photographs. I love looking at other people's artwork but I try and keep it strickly for an asthetic/entertainment purpose. If I like a wwork particularly well, I try and see what exactly works so well that draws me to it. ( usually things like line work, color use, details... things like that). Style always does try and creep its way in though, which is the reason why when I'm actually drawing, the only thing i look at are pictures - that way i'm drawing it my way and no one elses.

for everyone else: Thanks for the kind words. Again, you guys rock.

If you have the spare money, I highly suggest getting some advertising space on a webpage or something. You're work is very good, and it deserves to be seen by many more people, and an ad banner is a pgood way to draw some new readers.

Also, just out of curiosity, but what is your update schedual? I can't seem to find it on the webpage anywhere, but that may just be me being a blind idiot again.

Actually, whenever possible, try to cheat the system; do not pay for advertising whenever possible. Instead, advertise your comic like you're doing now. Eventually, word will get around. Then people will start plugging you on their sites, so word will continue to grow. After all, I have yet to see an advertisement for 8BT or Bob and George, but I see plenty of those 50px x 25px mini-banners around.

Any with quality like yours, I'm sure it won't be too hard to get word around. There are far worse comics that people insist on plugging.

That's a gem of a comic strip, Brainslug. I'll definitely be checking back in on it again.

Nice work!
